1. Data Gathering Technique for the Concept of the Iconic Model
Research and information gathering was conducted before the materials were designed. The data gathered was from the interview, questionnaire, and
document. In gathering the data, the researcher interviewed the English teachers of the technology divisions at the vocational high school at SMK N 3 Yogyakarta
and SMK N 2 Depok, distributed the questionnaire to the students of technology divisions at vocational high school, and collected the document from the syllabus
and teaching and learning materials. The aim of this section was to find out students‟ characteristics, lacks, interests, and needs in learning English.
2. Data Gathering Technique for the Practice of the Iconic Model
Evaluation was conducted after designing the materials. In order to develop the acceptable learning model, the designed model needed to be evaluated
to ensure the validity, reliability, and practicality. In evaluating the design model, the researcher employed the evaluative questionnaires to obtain the feedback from
the lecturers and teachers. They were to subsequently fill in the expert validation questionnaires. The participants are expected to choose one of five points of
agreement in each question and to answer some questions in written form. Besides, the researcher also interviewed the experts to get the clear and more
complete suggestion. After implementing the materials, the researcher distributed the
questionnaire to the tenth grade students to obtain the data about the student‟s

material model for the technology divisions. The data gathered from the research
were used to answer the questions proposed in the problem formulation section. E.
DATA ANALYSIS TECHNIQUE
After obtaining the data needed, the researcher analyzed the data. In this study, the data were analyzed into two parts, namely the concept of iconic model
and the practice of iconic model. In the concept of iconic model, the researcher analyzed data as the basis for creating the learning model. The data were obtained
from the interview, questionnaire, and document. On the other hand, in the practice of the iconic model, the researcher analyzed and used the data for
developing and revising the learning model. The data were obtained from questionnaire. Next, the researcher made the interpretation of the results of
interview, questionnaire, and document analysis in the form of written paragraph. The explanation of the data analysis would be presented as follows:
