a. Stating Competency Standards CS, Basic Competences BC, and
Topics
The goals and general purposes of the formal school in Indonesia have already been stated by the government in the Graduate’s Competency Standards
GCS of School-based Curriculum SBC in terms of Competency Standards and Basic Competencies. Therefore, the goals and general purposes of the designed
materials were adopted from the CS and BC of the school curriculum. In SMA Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta, vocabulary teaching is integrated with reading and
writing. Hence, the designed materials are mainly intended to support reading and writing activities. Therefore, the CS and BC used in this study are the CS and BC
of reading and writing. The CS and BC of the designed materials are mentioned in the following table.

In GCS, vocabulary teaching is not mentioned. Therefore, vocabulary cannot be taught separately from English skills, in this case, reading and writing.
Seeing the content of the CS and BC, students are expected to respond to and express meanings in written texts. In order to do the actions, students need a lot of
vocabulary and this is the role of vocabulary in reading and writing. After stating the general purposes, the writer then mentioned the learning
topics. The learning topics are taken from the stated general purposes or BCs. Those topics are banners, posters, brochures, reports, narratives, and analytical
expositions. The detailed topics can be seen in the following table.
