The purpose of this study is to see the effect of lime and h ~ ~ r n substance

application on: 1) soil aggregate stability, soil water characteristic (water content at
pF1, pF2, pF2.54 and pF4.2),

laboratory of IPB and Puslittanak for soil physical characteristic measurement ant1
green house of IPB baranang siang for crop growtli experi~nent.Soil sample usecl in
this study is Latosol and Iiumic substance ~ ~ s were
e d obtained from peat soil from the
area of PT.SAC Nusantara Mesuji.
The experiment was designed using co~npletelyRandon~izeclDesign with two
repetition. Four level of huniic substance (O%, 1%, 2% and 3%) and two level of lime
(0% and O.jX.4-dd) application were exanlinecl in this study.

l t the experiment shows that application of lime and h ~ ~ ms~~bstance

have no significant effect on aggregate stability. The trend of data shows, Inowevcr,
that soil aggregate stability sligthly increase with the increasing of litme ant1 h~111iic
substance level.
Application of lime and humic substance have no significant effect on soil
water content at pF1, pF2, pF2.54 but have significant effect on soil water pF 4.2.
Since soil sample used in low suction (pF 1, pF2, pF2.54) were undistrubed soil
sample whereas in high suction (pF4.2) were used distrubed soil sample. This result
suggest that the increase of soil water retention due to the increase of lime and humic
s~ibstanceis more textural character~sticinfluenced than soil structural characteristic.
Application of lime and humic substance can also significantly inhibit the
advance of wetting front, and significantly decrease of conductivity and difusivity on
unsaturated soil. This result indicate that hulnic substance used are hydrophobic. The
decrease of the advance of wetting fiont is also influenced by the time of
measurement.
Result of this study shows that lime and humic substance applicatior~have
significant effect on crop heigth only on 3 and 4 week after sowing. The effect

number of leaf significant only on 1 and 2 week after sowing. The effcct of those
application on crop dry weigth, however, is not significant.
