2.3 Relevant Study

1 Nova Indriyani 2004 in her thesis “Transitivity process in worldview’s articles of nesweek.” She explained about the types of transitivity process occurred in the worldview’s articles of Newsweek. Newsweek is an international newsmagazine which is published weekly by NEWSWEEK, Inc., 251 west 57th street, New York. Her problems in her thesis are what types of transitivity process occurred in the worldview’s articles of Newsweek and what is the most dominant type of transitivity process which become the characteristic in the worldview’s articles of Newsweek. This thesis has same problem with Nove’s thesis but we have different object of data. She used documentation method for collecting the data and analyzed the data by using descriptive method Arikunto,2006:239. She analyzed the thesis by Halliday’s theory. Her result of the thesis are Material process 67,43 is the most dominant found in worldview’s articles of Newsweek followed by Relational process19,40, Mental process6,25, Verbal process3,94, Existential process2,63,and the lowest is Behavioral process0,32. The writer and Nova Indriyani have same theory, method and probelems. But both of us have diferrences. She analyzed by using descriptive method Arikunto,2006:239, and this research analyzed by using descriptive method by Miles and Huberman. Both of us have different result, in Nova’s thesis found Material process 67,43 is the most dominant found in worldview’s articles of Newsweek followed by Relational process19,40, Mental process6,25, Verbal process3,94, Existential process2,63,and the lowest is Behavioral process0,32. But in this research is found 4 processes out of six, Universitas Sumatera Utara they are Material processes 73 is the most dominant found in two editorial texts of Jakarta Post, followed by Relational process 15,8, , Verbal process 6,5 , Mental process 4,7 . In Nova’s thesis, she has only looked for the most dominant processes, but in this research has looked for the most dominant of processes, participant and circumstance. Nova’s thesis helps this research to identified the process and clasified the process. Universitas Sumatera Utara
