CHAPTER IV RESEARCH FINDING
A. Data Description
This research was conducted at Department of English Education, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University of Jakarta. In this research, the writer chose
all students of second and fifth semester which each consist of three classes. There were 162 students, but only 135 students who participated to fulfill the
questionnaire. From 135 students, only 28 students were chosen for sample. 13 students were graduated from SMA and 15 students were graduated from MA. In
the process of determining sample, the writer found that most students ever joined the English course when they were at senior secondary schools, and some of them
came from vocational schools. The English subjects which were taught at the Department of English
Education in the first semester included Reading 1, Speaking 1, Listening 1, Grammar 1, and Vocabulary 1.
The following tables show the students’ English scores from both educational background, SMA and MA.

From the table above the writer saw that there were two students from SMA who failed in Reading, Listening, and Grammar. Student A failed in Listening,
student E failed in two subjects, Reading and Grammar. Most of students reach a good score in Listening even some of them reach the rate more than 80.
