This research was conducted at grade VIII SMP Negeri 1 Gamping. It was carried out on November 2013. The objective of this research was to improve the
students’ writing skills through the use of picture series. Based on the results and discussions in the previous chapter, it can be concluded that the implementation of
pictures in the teaching and learning process of writing is believed to be effective to improve their writing skills.
The results of this research revealed the improvements contributed by the implementation of the picture series in the teaching and learning process of writing
in grade VIII of SMP Negeri 1 Gamping. First, the students’ writing problems in four aspects of writing including content, language use, vocabulary, and
organization can be decreased. It might happen as picture series could provide the students illustrations and ideas in their minds. In addition, the implementation of
picture series and picture series-based activities are proven effectively facilitate the students to improve their writing skills. Second, picture series can make the
students able to engage and interest more in the teaching and learning process of
writing. As the result, they can improve their motivation in the teaching and learning process of writing. In addition, the improvements of their ideas and
motivation will contribute to the effective teaching and learning process of writing since they are more motivated and have no difficulties.

Based on the results of the research, it is implied that picture series was effective to improve students writing skills. The teachers need to implement
picture series in their teaching and learning process of writing since the use of picture series could improve the students’ writing skills in four aspects of writing
skills that include content, vocabulary, language use and organization. Besides, the use of picture series could also improve the students’ motivation to maximize the
teaching and learning process of writing.
