FORMULASI DAN UJI EFEKTIVITAS AIR BONGGOL PISANG RAJA
(Musa paradisiaca Linn.) SEBAGAI HAIR TONIC
ABSTRAK
Latar belakang: Hair tonic merupakan sediaan kosmetik yang digunakan untuk
merangsang pertumbuhan rambut. Air dari bonggol pisang (Musa paradisiaca
Linn.) telah digunakan oleh masyarakat sebagai penyubur rambut. Dalam
penelitian ini air bonggol pisang raja diformulasi sebagai sediaan hair tonic dalam
bentuk larutan.
Tujuan: Memformulasi air bonggol pisang raja sebagai sediaan hair tonic,
mengetahui stabilitas fisik dan efektivitas pertumbuhan rambut dari sediaan hair
tonic yang mengandung air bonggol pisang raja dengan variasi konsentrasi 5%;
10% dan 15 %.
Metode: Sediaan hair tonic dibuat dengan air bonggol pisang raja dengan
konsentrasi 5%; 10% dan 15%, bahan tambahan natrium metabisulfit, metil
paraben, propil paraben, mentol, CMC Na dan pelarut campuran etanol 96% dan
aquadest. Uji stabilitas fisik dilakukan dengan penyimpanan selama 12 minggu
pada suhu kamar meliputi, uji organoleptis (bau, warna, dan homogenitas), pH
dan viskositas. Untuk uji efektivitas pertumbuhan rambut, hair tonic diaplikasikan
secara topikal pada pagi dan sore hari ke punggung tikus yang telah dicukur.
Pengamatan dilakukan selama 28 hari. Efektivitas pertumbuhan rambut ditentukan
melalui pengukuran rata-rata panjang, diameter dan bobot rambut tikus serta

dibandingkan dengan sediaan hair tonic yang ada di pasaran (NATUR®).
Hasil: Hair tonic yang dihasilkan berupa larutan yang transparan, homogen dan
sedikit kental, viskositas (175,0 – 62,5 cPs) dan pH (5,5 – 7,4). Uji stabilitas fisik
menunjukkan sediaan stabil secara organoleptis, sedangkan pH meningkat dan
viskositas menurun setelah penyimpanan selama 12 minggu. Formula dengan
konsentrasi air bonggol pisang raja 15% menunjukkan rata-rata panjang rambut
yang tidak berbeda signifikan dengan sediaan hair tonic yang ada di pasaran
(NATUR®), sedangkan hasil rata-rata diameter dan bobot rambut semua formula
hair tonic yang dibuat lebih kecil dibandingkan dengan sediaan hair tonic yang
ada di pasaran (NATUR®).
Kesimpulan: Air bonggol pisang raja dapat diformulasikan sebagai sediaan hair
tonic berbentuk larutan. Semua formula sediaan hair tonic yang mengandung air
bonggol pisang raja stabil secara fisik selama penyimpanan 12 minggu pada suhu
kamar. Formula hair tonic yang mengandung air bonggol pisang raja 5%, 10%
dan 15% memiliki kemampuan dalam menumbuhkan rambut.

FORMULATION AND EFFECTIVITY TEST WATER OF PLANTAIN
HUMP (Musa paradisiaca Linn.) AS A HAIR TONIC
ABSTRACT
Background: Water of the plantain hump (Musa paradisiaca Linn.) has been
used by the soecity as a hair fertilizer. Hair tonic is cosmetic that used to stimulate
the growth of hair. In this research water of the plantain hump is formulated as a
hair tonic in the form of a solution.
Aim: To formulate the water of plantain hump as a hair tonic, to know the
physical stability and the effectivity of the hair growth from a hair tonic which
containing the water of the plantain hump with variaties concentrations of 5%;
10% and 15%.
Methods: Hair tonic was made by water of the plantain hump with concentration
5%; 10% and 15%, additives sodium metabisulfite, methyl paraben, propyl
paraben, menthol, CMC Na and solvent mixture of 96% ethanol and aquadest.
Physical stability test done during 12 weeks of storage at room temperature
include, organoleptic test (odor, color, and homogeneity), pH and viscosity. To
test the effectivity of the preparations, hair tonic was applied topically in the
morning and afternoon on the back of the rat that had been sheared. Observation

of the effectivity done for 28 days. The effectivity of hair growth is determined by
measuring the average length, diameter, weight of rats’ hair and compared them
with hair tonic in the market (NATUR®).
Results: The hair tonic was a transparent solution, homogeneous and slightly
viscous, viscosity (175.0 – 62.5 cPs) and pH (5.5 – 7.4). The organoleptic
physical stability test showed stable, while pH increased and viscosity decreased
after storage on 12 weeks at room temperature. Formula with 15% water of
plantain hump showed the average hair length did not different significant with
hair tonic in the market (NATUR®), while the results of average hair diameter and
weight all formula of hair tonic had smaller than a hair tonic in the market
(NATUR®).
Conclusion: Water of the plantain hump can be formulated as a hair tonic
solution. All formula which contains by water of the plantain hump are stable
physically for storage 12 weeks at room temperature. Hair tonic formula with 5%:
10% and 15% water of plantain hump have the ability in growing hair.
