Summary :
Reading a ruler is a basic and an important measurement skill, which most
of us are well aware of. But there are many people who find it a intimidating
task. Ruler is a standard measurement tool that enables us to read
measurements in either the metric system (meters, centimeters, or
millimeters) or the English (miles, yards, or inches) system. There are simple
instruction on how to read ruler. A metric ruler mainly deals with centimeters
(cm) and millimeters (mm) and no fractions are involved. Reading a ruler
that uses the English system or inches is apparently a bit difficult and
requires a basic knowledge of fractions.
Comment :

I think this article helpful for me. Especially I come from mathematics
department. From here I know that while measuring, needed an accurate to
avoid mistake measure. And I agree that reading a ruler with English system
more difficult than metric system.

Summary :
There are many steps that easy to calculate or for solving problem divide
decimal by a whole number and by decimal number.
Comment :
It’s important information. Available easy method for solving the problem it.

But, If want to be able to do divisions involving decimals, there is just one
way to it, practice, practice and practice.

How to Divide Decimals
Working around with decimals may be a little taxing and when students are
faced with the question of how to divide decimals, they realize that they
have to exercise their brain more than ever before. However, taking a step
by step approach to the problem in hand, can make dividing decimals easy.
Here is how...
Decimals are used to provide greater precision to numerical value of a
quantity. Along with this benefit comes a challenge, which is the fact that
carrying out mathematical operations are more difficult with decimals as
compared to whole numbers. When it comes to how to divide decimals, then
the scenario becomes all the more complicated. It is so because division is
the most complex among, all the four basic operations in mathematics. In
fact, one needs to use successive subtraction to carry out a division. But
problem solving, which involves division of decimals, can be made easy by
ensuring that the divisor is a whole number. This can be done by shifting the
decimal, so that, the divisor becomes a whole number. However, to avoid the
ill-effects on the result of the problem, the dividend also, needs to be altered

and balanced accordingly. This is the case if the divisor is a decimal. But first
let us learn how to divide a decimal when the divisor is a whole number.
How to Divide Decimals: By a Whole Number
This is the easier of the two cases of division of decimal. When the divisor is
a whole number and the dividend a decimal, then ignore the decimal point of
the dividend. Now the problem becomes a simple one, which is a division
involving whole numbers only. Work out the problem using the regular long
division method. Once the quotient is achieved, place a decimal point with as
many numbers to the right, as originally was in the dividend. Lets
understand this process with an example:
Lets say we have to solve 7.9/4 to find its quotient. Follow these steps for
solving the problem:
Step 1: Ignore the decimal point in the dividend. Now your problem becomes
79/4.
Step 2: Carry out the division with the regular long division method. The
answer is 19.75.
Step 3: The dividend had one digit to the right of the decimal point. So, we
have to ensure that we shift the decimal so that there is one more digit to its
right. Hence the answer is 1.975.
How to Divide Decimals: By a Decimal Number

If the divisor is not a whole number, then we have to move the decimal point
over as many places as it takes, to make it a whole number. The same has to
be done with the dividend. If the dividend is also a decimal number then
move the decimal point over to as many places as you did in case of the
divisor. Add some extra zeros to the dividend, if you have to. If the dividend
is not a decimal number, then just append zeros to it, number of which
should be equal to the number of places that you have shifted the decimal in
the divisor. Let 's understand this with this example:
Lets say we have solve 4.25/ 0.125 to find its quotient. Follow these steps for
solving the sum:
Step 1: To convert 0.125 to a whole number, you have to shift the decimal
point to over three digits to right. Then you get the whole number 125 as the
divisor.
Step 2: Now move the decimal point in the dividend 3 places to the right. But
there are only 2 digits to the right of the decimal in this case. Hence, you will
have you append a zero to the end of the dividend and then shift the decimal
3 digits to the right in the dividend. Hence, the dividend now becomes 4250.
The division that you have to solve is now 4250/125.
Step 3: Now carry out division as you normally would. The answer is 34.

Summary :
Math is a very intriguing subject. Either a student completely understands
the subject else it can make no sense to them. It is the task of the
elementary school teacher that such an important subject be taught with
exceptional care so that it does not become a nightmare for the students as
they grow up. One of the best ways to teach students the subject is via
simple games as it will hold their interests better and will make concepts
clearer. Example math games is The Astrolabe Game and Guess the
Sequence.

Comment :
With this article, I am feeling a bit confused, such as this statement,” I
can count up to a million” is worthless until it is proven experimentally by
the process of actually counting. I think this statement shows that if I can
count up to a million, it is unuseful. Am i right??. If it does, why their pupils
must count until a million (such as explanation of this article)?.
With the explanation that given this article, we can know that in 50 minutes,
would count up to 5 000. In other word, in 100 minutes we can count up to
10 000 until in 10 000 minutes or ± 16 hour, we can count up to 1000 000
( a million ). So, who want to do it ? During 16 hour just count up to million. I
think nobody and as we know that the numbers were getting longer. It’s the
entertaining article..

How to Teach Classroom Mathematics
The entertaining article on teaching methods of classroom mathematics.
Some years ago, I got appointment as a Head of Pre-Entry Science Course
Department at the Technical University in Balgravia. The Department
enrolled the best students from different high school of the country. The
objective of the Department was to find students’ gaps in their knowledge of
science subjects and upgrade them to university standards. It was pleasure
to work in an exotic country on such challenging issues and for such noble
goal.
Once, when I passed by a classroom where mathematics was being taught
by a colleague, I heard the voice of the students counting: 4 596, 4 598, 4
5999…At that time, I did not pay much attention to it. But after three days,
from behind the doors of the same classroom, I heard: 13 127, 13 128, 13
129…
"My friend", I asked Mr. S. soon afterwards on the corridor, "what is
happening in the classroom during your math lessons?" "Well, my students
are counting up to a million, he answered." "Hmm," I muttered and went
away.
Then, at the staircase, I realized the meaning of his words. I went to my
office. Looking at my wristwatch, I counted up to one hundred. I picked up a
calculator. I computed that in 50 minutes, they would count up to 5 000, in a
week (5 lessons) to 25 000 and at the end of the school year, they would not
even reach 800 000 because of holidays and the fact that numbers were
getting longer!
I summoned Mr. S. "Do you realize what you are doing with your counting?"
"This is a modern way of introducing a certain concept. First of all, I make my
pupils aware of how huge the number million. Then, secondly, we have great
satisfaction in being the first. I believe, so far, nobody has counted up to a
million! I expect the class to be in the "Guinness Book of Records" and
thirdly, I am testing whether pupils can count up to a million! The statement:
"I can count up to a million" is worthless until it is proven experimentally, i.e.
by the process of actually counting". I got upset. "Enough is enough!" I
shouted. "I order you to teach according to the syllabus!"
Next day, stealthily, I approached his classroom. The pupils were reciting: 17
999, 18000, 18001… I decided to fire Mr. S. Discreetly, I let my superiors
know that Mr. S. was probably lunatic. The message was spread. The
university community decided that I was against the introduction of modern
teaching methods, that I do not understand the outcome based education
and that I felt personal animosity towards our colleague. My two-year
contract expired and was not renewed... I left the university
After a month's time, I came back to the Department to visit my friend, the
English tutor. From all the classrooms where mathematics lessons were
conducted (not only from the classroom of Mr. S.), I heard the voices of the
students counting: 277 238, 277 239, 277 240…

Math Magician Games
Math has been a part of everyone's life and plays an integral role
in our day-to- day activities. Learning math can be an interesting as well as a
boring subject depending on how well you grasp its basic concepts. However,
today learning math and most importantly enjoying it, has taken a priority,
especially among the kids. So read on to learn more about math magician
games and tricks.
When I was in school, math wasn't exactly my cup of coffee (Why
should it be tea always?) I used to burn my lips, every time I thought of it.
For me, math has been a M- Mind Boggling, A- Agonizing, T- Tiring, HHorrible subject. I used to get confused by the formula, the theorems and
what not. Algebra!!! I never understood why they used x, y and z every time
when there were so many alphabets remaining. It was a never ending agony,
a traumatic experience. Pythagoras theorem looked so meaningless to me. I
wonder why he measured a triangle, when we don't have any use of it in our
daily life. Well, I could go on with my litany of complaints. However, these
days, kids enjoy math, thanks to several math magician games available online and off-line.
Kids adore magic. So it is a good idea to interlink the basic
concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with magic to
teach them different math magician tricks and puzzles to make the subject
interesting. Introduce kids to a whole new world of math problem solving.
The basic concept is 'not to do different things, but to do things differently'.
Math magician games for kids can include solving word
problems. Word problems range from being very simple to very complex.
Involve real life situations like buying and selling, that include the use of the
mathematical operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication and
division. Simplify and teach them the right use of the concept of BODMAS, a
basic concept, which every child would find useful in everyday life later in
their lives.
Math Magician Games - Class activities
You can use the following math magician game in class where you can make
the kids believe that math is a tricky and interesting subject. Here is the
math magician trick:
1. Divide the students into different groups. Pick out a student from each
group and then make him or her choose any number from 1 to 20
2. The students must not disclose the number they have chosen
3. Now tell them to multiply the number by 2. But make sure they do the
calculations in their mind
4. After they have finished make them add 10 to the answer. Then ask
them to divide the result by 2
5. Let them subtract the original number they had chosen from the result
of No.4
Watch their awed expression when you announce that the final result for all
of
them
is
5.
Math Magician Games - Home Activities
It is said that home is the first school for a child. You can use the following
math magician game to impress your kids.
1. Get a pack of cards and make your kids shuffle the deck as many times
as they wish
2. After shuffling the deck 3 to 4 times, lay down 27 cards in 3 columns
with each column having 9 cards each
3. Lay 3 cards in a row and continue till you have reached the 9th row by
laying all the 27 cards. Make sure that the cards are facing up
4. Ask your child to choose a card from the cards laid out and tell you the
column where the card belongs. But he/ she should not reveal which is
the chosen card

5. Gather the cards column-wise but make sure that the chosen card is
the 10th one in the deck
6. Re-lay the 27 cards in the same manner as in 3 columns with 9 rows
each. Ask the child where his/ her chosen card is located. Gather the
cards in the same manner as in step 5
7. Repeat steps 6 & 5 and lay the cards again for the 4th time
8. Count up to the 14th card and ask your child if he/she had chosen that
card
Enjoy watching your kid nod in amazement at this simple math magician
trick.
Math Magician Games - Puzzle Solving
Solving math magician games and tricks can help children
develop analytical and critical thinking skills. They can be taught to solve
interesting puzzles like Sudoku and Kakuro. Sudoku is a simple game of logic
and it involves the use of a Latin square which has 9 blocks of 3 x 3 cells.
The trick is to complete the square by filling in numbers from 1 to 9 in such a
way that no number is repeated in a single row or column. Sudoku has
become very popular in recent times and is a craze among the young and old
alike. Hence Sudoku is an excellent way to improve logical and analytical
skills of kids and at the same time have fun playing the game.
Kakuro is another popular math magician game which involves
the use of logic and numbers. It is somewhat similar to Sudoku. The puzzle
has horizontal and vertical lines having a particular number of blank squares.
To play, one has to enter the numbers from 1 to 9 to add up to the sum of
the total given in the black grid.
Math magician tricks act as a brainteaser, thereby improving a
person's way of thinking logically. Read more on:

Learning math magician tricks is not that difficult as one thinks.
When one needs to calculate simple problems, one can always do it in his
head. Our brain is automatically programmed to read from left to right. So,
while solving problems we do it from left to right. In case of adding up
difficult numbers, the trick is to split up the numbers into smaller values and
add them up.
Math is an intriguing subject. A boring, slow afternoon can be
converted into an electrifying atmosphere by having some fun math
magician games and tricks. So why wait? Just go ahead and discover the
interesting world of Math.
