CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS
In this chapter, there are two sections to discuss. The discussions are about the conclusions and suggestions. The first section consists of the conclusions of
the study. The second section is about the suggestions for the English teacher in SMA Stella Duce I Yogyakarta and future researchers.
A. Conclusions
The purpose of this study was to design a set of English instructional reading materials based on reciprocal teaching strategy for the first semester of the
tenth grade students in SMA Stella Duce I Yogyakarta. Before starting the study, the writer formulated two problems in this study as stated in chapter one.
To answer the first problem, which is how a set of English instructional reading materials based on reciprocal teaching strategy for the first semester of the
tenth grade students in SMA Stella Duce I Yogyakarta is designed, the writer needed to consult to some related literature. As a result, the writer employed
Research and Development method and adapted two instructional design models proposed by Kemp and Yalden.
The steps of instructional design employed were presented as follows:
1. Conducting Needs Analysis
2. Considering Goals, Topics and General Purposes
3. Selecting the Syllabus types
4. Specifying the Learning Objectives
5. Selecting the Subject Content
6. Selecting the Teaching-Learning Activities
7. Designing the Materials
8. Evaluating the Materials
9. Revising the Designed Materials
The writer conducted step 1-5 to design the materials. After designing the materials, the writer requested two English teachers and two English lecturers to
give feedbacks, comments and suggestions on the designed materials by giving degree of agreements to the statements provided in the questionnaire of materials
evaluation. The result of the materials evaluation ranged from 3.75 up to 4.25 .
This showed that the designed materials were good and acceptable. However, the writer still needed to make some revisions based on the participants’ feedbacks,
comments and suggestions to improve the designed materials. The second problem to be answered was to present a set of English
instructional reading materials based on reciprocal teaching strategy for the first semester of the tenth grade students in SMA Stella Duce I Yogyakarta. Therefore,
after conducting some revisions, the writer presented the final version of the designed materials. There are eight units in the designed materials namely:
1 Enchanted, 2 The Show, 3 Toast, 4 Imagination, 5 Mirror on the Wall, 6 Organized, 7 Tale and, 8 About Me.
Each unit covers four strategies, called predicting, questioning, clarifying and summarizing. The activities and tasks in each unit were designed to help the
students recognize the use of the four strategies. The final version of the designed materials is attached in Appendix I.
