16 3. ANALYSIS AND FINDING 3.1 Analysis The data are taken from the story of novel The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes which was first published in 1892 in England. After studying the data, it is found that Gerund in this novel has 9 different functions.

A. Gerung as a subject
