words will enrich students. Furthermore, those words can help students in recognizing word in the text. On the other hand, the smallest learning opportunity
is found in chapter 8 20.72. Most of tokens used in chapter 8 found in GSL800. Thus, it is not highly demanding for students and they only get small
learning opportunity. Fortunately, all of the chapters show that GSL500GSL800 GSL1000. See
the figure below.

From figure 4.4, it can also be concluded that in every part of the book, except chapter 5 and 13, the percentage of token, type, word family in GSL500 is
bigger than those in GSL800. And the percentage of token, type, word family in GSL800 is bigger than those in GSL1000.
5. Further Discussion
All four course books being researched by the researcher, indicates that the charateristics of Junior High School course books, especially for grade 8 or year
2, have adequate vocabulary needs for students since it shows only 64 until 81

This result show that those course books, as representatives of course book being used by students in Yogyakarta, have lack of vocabulary needed by
students, especially 2
nd
grade of Junior High School. Although some of the course books provide large number of tokens, various types and learning opportunity to
acquire new vocabulary, all the books only gave 64-81 of total 800 headwords GSL800 needed for 2
nd
grade to be learned. The deficit vocabulary is greately ranged between 136-286 headwords. A remarkable note for book 3, it has the
highest deficit among all. Therefore, significant improvements are needed for
