Hubungan Konsumsi Fast Food dengan Kadar Kolesterol pada mahasiswa di Fakultas Kedokteran USU tahun 2016

iv

ABSTRAK
Pendahuluan.
Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sumatera Utara.

ABSTRACT
Background. Economic development and industrialization give a lot of influence
on the diet of people, one of them is fast food. Fast food consumption is often
associated with increased level of cholesterol. High cholesterol is a risk factor for
degenerative diseases.
Objectives. The aim of this study was to determine the association between the
frequency of fast food consumption with total cholesterol levels in university
students.
Method. This study used a cross sectional design and took place at the University
of North Sumatera. The sampling method that was in this study was systematic
sampling and 152 respondents were obtained. Respondents were given a
questionnaire and the total cholesterol levels were measured. Chi Square analysis
was used to determine the association between fast food consumption with total

cholesterol levels
Results. From the results of this study, there were 62 male respondents (40,8%)
and 90 female respondents (59,2%). The majority of the respondents rarely
consumed fast food (70,4%) and had normal cholesterol levels (42,8%). Chi
Square analysis showed a p-value < 0,05 (0,169) in the association between fast
food consumption with total cholesterol levels.
Conclusion. There was no significant association between fast food (that were
included in the questionnaire) consumption with total cholesterol levels.
