B. Research Process
This part would present the process in conducting this class room action research, namely preliminary
study, determining action and action implementation.
The action implementation deals with the Bachman‟s spiral in action research i.e. planning, action and observation, reflection used in this
research.
1. Preliminary Study
Before doing a research, the researcher conducted preliminary study for the students of class XI EL SMK Marsudi Luhur II Yogyakarta to know the real
condition and problem faced in teaching and learning activities. The preliminary study was conducted when the researcher took PPL Program Praktek Lapangan
in SMK Marsudi Luhur II Yogyakarta. The observation was done when the students were participating teaching
and learning activities. The researcher tried to identify the real problem faced by the students. From the identification, the researcher found that the students
seemed not actively participating the lesson as they were afraid to speak in English. Meanwhile, the teacher applied a rule
called “English hour” in which the students had to speak in English in their conversation, including answering and
asking questions to the teacher. The students were not confident when the teacher asked them to speak in
English. It was seen when the student tried to use English but he could not
pronounce English word correctly, his friends laughed at him. This condition happened many times and it decreased students‟ motivation in speaking.
Knowing that the students often pronounce English words incorrectly, the teacher tried to make correction by giving the correct pronunciation and asked the
students to repeat many times. Using this technique did not really help the students to be able to pronounce correctly. From that condition, the researcher
tried to find the problem solving for the students using interesting media in order to make them understand English pronunciation easily.
2. Determining Action
After conducting a preliminary study, the researcher decided to use interesting teaching media that could help the students in learning pronunciation.
The researcher chose movies as the teaching media used in the classroom. The researcher chose movies because it could not only give the example of English
pronunciation by the native speakers, but it could also increase students‟ interest
in following the lesson. Before implementing the action, the researcher selected the movies which
were appropriate to use in classroom and it could give good example of English pronunciation. Besides, the researcher tried to avoid selecting movies which
contained uncommon vocabulary and complex story line. The consideration was that the students would be easier to imitate the pronunciation of words that they
had already known. Besides, interesting story could increase their motivation, so that they could get the lesson easily.
3. Action Implementation
