F. Research Procedure
In conducting the study, the researcher had procedure for doing the research. The procedures consisted of conducting preliminary study, asking
permission and conducting the action research.
1. Conducting Preliminary Study
The researcher conducted a preliminary study to identify the students’ problems in XI AP class. The aim of the preliminary study was to find the
students’ characteristics and problems. In the preliminary study, the researcher conducted two observations, distributed questionnaires twice and interviewed the
English teacher of XI AP class. Based on the preliminary study, the researcher found the appropriate
technique to help students solve their problems in pronunciation. The researcher found that drilling technique could help the students solve their problem in
pronouncing English words. According to Haycraft 1978, p. 36, after presentation and explanation of the new structure, students may use controlled
practice to say useful and correct sentence patterns combined with appropriate vocabulary. These patterns are known as oral drills.
2. Asking Permission
The researcher planned to compose some possible topics after doing an observation in the PPL session. Then, the researcher began to conduct this study
by getting permission from the headmaster of SMK BOPKRI 1 Yogyakarta. Firstly, the school had given permission to do research in the school informally.
Then, the researcher made a formal permission letter from Licensing Agency of
45 Yogyakarta. After getting permission, the researcher conducted the study while
stabilizing Chapter 1, 2 and 3 by having consultations and revisions.
3. Conducting Action Research
There were two cycles in this study. Each cycle consisted of two meetings. The Cycle 1 was held on April 24
th
and April 25
th
, 2013. Then, the Cycle 2 was held on April 29
th
and May 1
st
, 2013. The researcher also provided the lesson plan which was appropriate for students by seeing the competence standard and the
basic competence. The Competence Standard of the XI class of Vocational High School is berkomunikasi dengan bahasa inggris setara level elementary or
communicate using English as Elementary-Level. The Basic Competence is mengungkapakan berbagai macam maksud hati or express some intentions. The
material in this basic competence was persuading materials. The objectives of the study were to make the students pronounce English words correctly through the
materials. After conducting the study, the researcher reported the result. The data
gathered from the action stage supported the result. There were some observation checklists provided in each cycle. The observation checklists would be used as the
reflections of the study. In the observation checklists, the researcher reflected what had happened and what should happen in the classroom. The researcher
actually always involved observations in every meeting to check the pronunciation improvement of the students. After collecting data, the researcher
made a conclusion to answer the research problem.

CHAPTER IV RESEARCH RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
This Chapter IV presents the description of the implementation of drilling
technique and the discussion of the result. There are two cycles in conducting this
study. The researcher answers the problem formulation through the learning
process of the Cycle 1 and Cycle 2 in this Classroom Action Research.
The description of the implementation of drilling technique presented the process of the implementation of drilling technique to improve the students’
pronunciation. The discussion of the result provided the result of the students’ pronunciation and it answered the problem formulation. After knowing the
students’ problems in learning English, the researcher observed the students’ characteristics and what the students were needed. After knowing the students’
needs, the researcher implemented drilling technique. In the implementation of drilling technique, the researcher tried to gain some sources about the usage, the
benefits and the focuses of the technique. Then, in the discussion, the teacher found that the students’ pronunciation improved.
A. Description of the Implementation of Drilling Technique
Before the researcher chose drilling technique to be applied to XI AP class, the researcher conducted two observations, gave two questionnaires to the
students in the classroom and interviewed the English teacher. In the observations, the researcher found that the students of XI AP class had low pronunciation in
English words. First, the students could not pronounce English words correctly.
