2.3.1 Main Character and Periphal Character

Reading a novel, the readers usually will face several characters that are appeared in the story, but each character has different role. Based on the role and level of impotance, there are essential character being appeared continuously, so that it is felt dominating most of the story, it is called main character central character. On the other hand, there are character who appear once or some times in the story, and maybe relativly in short portion, it is called peripheral characters. Main character is a character that emphasized in a novel.

2.3.2 Protagonist and Antagonist

Based on character’s appereance, the character can be differentiated into protagonist and antagonist. Protagonist is character who is admired by readers, popularly he is called as hero because he always does ideal role and followa the rules and values in society. 2.3.3 Static Character and Developmental Character

Static character is character that essentially does not experience changes or development of characterization because of events that had happened Altenbern and Lewis. This character less involves and is not being influenced by environmental changes or that happened because of human relationship. Static character like coral in the sea, that is always strong although hit by wave everyday. Meanwhile, development character that experience changes and development and changes of events and plot that are being told. Character’s attitude develops, so that he will experience the development and changes from the beginning, middle until the end of story.
