CHAPTER IV FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION
A. Introduction
Chapter IV discusses about the answers of research questions in problem statement as written on Chapter I. Each text is compared to find the appraising
items, the way and the reason of employing the appraising items. The graduation of the attitudes, the prosody and also the ideology are analyzed here to elucidate
the answer of each question. This chapter consists of data description and discussion. The data
description compares each text and then they are analyzed to find out the result of the answer of the research questions. The discussion contains the relation between
the questions ―what‖, ―how‖, and ―why‖ to the entire texts. Then it is compared to the information on the secondary data and it is also compared to the previous
researches to see the relation between this research and the others. In addition, it is also to see what makes this research different from the previous researches.
This analysis is the application of the procedure of data analysis explained in Chapter III. They are domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential
analysis and finding cultural values. Domain and taxonomic analysis is used to
answer the first question, componential analysis is applied to answer the second question, and finding cultural values is for answering the third question and the
relation between the texts and the writer. To analyze appraisal in this thesis, the researcher applies J. R. Martin and
David Rose way of analysis of Appraisal Theory in English, based on their book

―Working with Discourse: Meaning beyond the Clause‖ 2003. In addition, to complete the analysis, it is also applied the more complex English Appraisal
analysis by J. R. Martin and Peter White 2005 from the book ―The Language of
Evaluation: Appraisal in English‖, as has been written in Chapter II. There might be some abbreviations within the analysis. The abbreviations
