The first part is the analysis on the characteristics of Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace. The second part is analysis on the motivation of Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace to cherish their life.

A. Augustus Waters and Hazel Graze’s Characteristics

There are two main characters in John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace. Augustus Waters was seventeen years old boy who had a little touch of osteosarcoma. After one and a half year, he survived from that disease, but the survival cost him to lose one of his legs due to an inevitable amputation. He met Hazel Grace at the support group specifically made for the communal support to people battling with diseases, mostly cancer. On the other hand, Hazel Grace was sixteen years old girl who suffered from thyroid with mets in her lungs which forced her to always put on an oxygen-drizzling nubs on her nostrils to help her breath every single day. She also met Augustus Waters in the support group as well, and therefore, they built a relationship after continuous interaction. Thus, to know more about the characteristics of Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace, Murphy’s theory of characterization is applied in this analysis. PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI
