a. Learners’ Beliefs about Vocabulary Learning

The first information collected through distributing the questionnaire was abou t the nursing students’ beliefs on vocabulary learning. This part consisted of 11 statements grouped under three categories:1 words should be memorized, 2 words should be acquired in context bottom up, and 3 words should be studied and put to use top down. The following tables present the statement and also the results of the vocabulary learning strategy questionnaire. Table 4.2. I can acquire a large vocabulary by memory of individual words. 17 39 24 80 247 3.09 There will be 15 target words in each unit The data in Table 4.2. showed that 69 nursing students believed memorization with the mean score was 3.2 to be one of the ways to learn vocabulary, while the repetition was only reported by 58 nursing students. On the other hand, about 43 students responded that it would be necessary to know or remember more than one definition of a word. The result implied that the users required to have a list of words to be memorized with its meaning. Therefore, the mini dictionary or glossary would be provided to accommodate the needs of the nursing students in vocabulary learning. Table 4.3. At the same time, they would also employ the strategy of guessing based on the context the word if located. These findings would be the consideration of using the reading texts to exposed the target words and to encourage the users to guess the meaning from the contexts. Table 4.4.
