This objectivealsodetermineshow the writerprocesses the results ofthe research which is
topresentthe analysis byusing this method. Therefore, the findings or the found data are analyzed in a form of detail explanation.
3.2. Source of Data
This thesis uses Percy Jackson the Olympians: the Titan’s Curse novel by Rick Riordan as SL which is translated into Indonesian Language, Percy Jackson
Dewa-dewi Olympia: Kutukan Bangsa Titan novel by Nuraini Mastura as TL. The sources of data themselves which is semantic shifts contained in the novel are gathered
from the translated version which consists of 20 chapters with 412 pages.
3.3 Data Collecting Procedures
According to Dede Oetomo in Suyanto, 1995:186, there are three methods of collecting data such as interview, observation, and analysis on written documents such
as quotation, notes, memorandum, publications, and official reports, diaries, and written answer to questioner and survey. Based on the theory stated above, since the data are
44 gathered from the translated version of Percy Jackson The Olympians: The Titan’s
Curse, so the procedure of collecting the date is written documents. In this analysis, the data are acquired from the sources through the technique of
purposive sampling. It means the samples of which are concerned with the purpose of this analysis that will be taken. As Sutopo states 2006:64:
“Karena pengambilan cuplikannya didasarkan atas berbagai pertimbangan tertentu, maka pengertiannya sejajar dengan jenis teknik
cuplikan yang dikenal sebagai purposive sampling, dengan kecenderungan peneliti untuk memilih informannya berdasarkan posisi
dengan akses tertentu yang dianggap memiliki informasi yang berkaitan dengan permasalahannya secara mendalam dan dapat dipercaya untuk

The novel consists of 412 pages with 20 chapters. The data that are going to be analyzed will be taken purposively. Each sample has already been on the homogeny
data. This research is conducted by reading both the source text and the target text and
then observing the source text and then compares it with the target text in order to find which words or phrases that sustain shifts which in this case are shift from generic
meaning to specific meaning or vice versa and shift occurred due to cultural differences.
