b. The Steps and the Considerations in Developing Listening Media
based on the Interview
This part was the continuation of the discussion topics in questionnaire. The researcher asked some of the questions that available in the questionnaire.
Being verified about the steps and considerations that the participants took, they agreed that they considered some steps before developing listening media.
Based on the data, English Language Education Study Program’s students
agreed that listening media should be interesting. If the listening media was not interesting, the students would get bored and might ignore the listening material.
The software, in this case, had an important role in order to make the listening media more interesting. The students’ perception was expressed in the following
part.
“Kalau kita menggunakan software kan kita bisa menambah misalnya suara2, backsound, supaya mereka juga lebih tertarik untuk mendengarkan
,dan mereka juga penasaran, kira2 ini listeningnya tentang apa kalau kita memakai software. Kalau kita Cuma merekam suara kita tanpa ada editan
sama sekali itu akan membuat siswa merasa bosan. Dan nantinya ujungnya siswa mungkin bisa tidur dan tidak melakukan aktivitas mendengarkannya
dengan baik
” student 2 if we use software, we can put additional sound, for example is backsound,
so that they will be more interested in the listening media and they will be curious what the listening is about. If we only record our voice without giving
any editing, that will make students bored and they will sleep in the class and
won’t do the listening activity well.

38 From the data it could be seen that factor of interest became students
consideration in making listening media. Without the factor of interest, the listener would get bored easily and then the aims of the study could not be
reached maximally. The English Language Education Study Program’s students also noticed
that as the preservice teachers, they must make some considerations in designing listening media. It was because those considerations influenced their students
listening skill.
“if I want to make a recording for my children, the recording must not be very clear or there are some sounds that is inappropriate, because of the software
we can normalize the sound and make it more clear.” student 1
From the student’s answer, it indicated that the participant paid attention on the factor of clarity. They realized that the clarity was important in listening. If the
listening media had noise, the listeners could not listen and understand the material well.
