Discussion Presentation of the Materials Design

C. Discussion

In this part, the discussion dealt with two processes. The first process was the stages of designing a set of task-based instructional materials to teach English to fifth graders of SD Kanisius Baciro Yogyakarta. The second process was the process of making revisions and improvements on the designed materials based on the survey research. The stages used in designing a set of task-based instructional materials to teach English to fifth graders of SD Kanisius Baciro Yogyakarta in this study were as follows: 1 identifying the learners’ characteristics 2 considering goals, listing topics, and stating general purposes 3 specifying learning objectives 4 listing the subject content 5 selecting teaching learning activities and the instructional resources 6 designing the instructional materials 7 evaluation and revision The participants’ suggestions and feedback were used for making revisions and improvements on the designed materials. The data formulated in table 4.6 indicated that the grand mean on the evaluation of the instructional materials designed generally was 4. 02. The writer, therefore, could draw a conclusion that the designed materials were acceptable. In order to get better materials, therefore, the writer conducted some revisions and improvements on the designed materials based on the evaluation of the participant. The results of the revisions were written as follows: 1. rearranging the topics started from self 2. clarifying the task instructions 3. substituting the pictures 4. changing the unit title from ‘Pet Animals into ‘My Pet’

D. Presentation of the Materials Design

The second problem formulation was the presentation of the designed materials. Therefore, after making the revisions and improvements on the designed materials, the writer finally presented the final version of a set of task- based instructional materials to teach English to fifth graders of SD Kanisius Yogyakarta . The designed materials consisted of 10 units as stated below: Unit 1 : Pandu’s Family Unit 2 : My Pet Unit 3 : I Can Write with My Hand Unit 4 : What Time Is It? Unit 5 : I usually Get Up at 5 o’clock Unit 6 : I Like Swimming Unit 7 : How Much Is It? Unit 8 : How Do You Make It? Unit 9 : I Go to School by Bus Unit 10 : I’m Going to the Beach In general, the subject content of the designed materials consisted of 5 kinds of activities and 1 additional activity for certain topics as mentioned below: PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI 1. Come with Me 2. Take It 3. Action 4. Go Go Go 5. Memory 6. Project Considering the large number of the pages, the writer placed the designed materials in appendix 6.

CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

This chapter presents two sections. The first one deals with the conclusion of the study. In the second part, the writer would like to give some suggestions to English teachers of elementary school and other researchers who plan to conduct the same kind of research.

A. CONCLUSIONS

This study was conducted to design a set of task-based instructional materials for fifth graders of SD Kanisius Baciro Yogyakarta. The writer, then, identified two problems stated in this study. The first was how a set of task-based instructional materials for fifth graders of SD Kanisius Baciro Yogyakarta was designed. The second was what the designed materials looked like. In order to find out the answer for the first problem, the writer combined two instructional design models from Kemp and Dick Carey. The combination of the models could be used effectively in designing a set of task-based instructional materials in this study. The steps were rearranged as follows: 1 identifying the learners’ characteristics, 2 considering goals, listing topics, and stating general purposes, 3 specifying learning objectives, 4 listing the subject content, 5 selecting teaching learning activities and the instructional resources, 6 designing the instructional materials, and 7 evaluation and revision. To answer the second problem, the writer revised the proposed materials based on the designed materials evaluation. The evaluation was conducted by PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI
