COST EFFECTIVENESS ANALYSIS OF HYPERTENSION
AND DIABETES MELLITUS TREATMENT
IN HAJI ADAM MALIK PUBLIC HOSPITAL
PERIOD JANUARY 2014 - JUNE 2014

ABSTRACT
Hypertension is a condition where increased blood pressure levels
exceeds the normal value(≥140/90 mmHg). Prevalence in Indonesia 32.2% and
only 24.4% of patients with hypertension are diagnosed and get
treatment.Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by
blood glucose levels exceeded the normal value or hyperglycemia(
≥200 mg/dl) .
Data from basic health research 2013, prevalence DM 2.1% and only 50% were
aware (including 30% were treated regulary).Health financing in Indonesia has
increased, cost-effectiveness analysis is needed to assist in decision these
medicines are effective in benefit and costs.
This study aimed was to evaluate cost effectivenessof antihypertensive
and antidiabetic provided to inpatients in Haji Adam Malik Public Hospital of
Medan.
This research was a non-eksperimental and used retrospective method.
This study was undertaken using medical record of patients at period of January
2014 - June 2014. The evaluation was conducted using Cost-Effectiveness
Analysis (CEA) method. Cost Effectiveness Average Ratio (CEA Ratio) and
Incremental Cost Effectiveness Ratio (ICER) methods were used to analyze
model of antihypertensive andantidiabetic therapy which is the most cost-effective

one.
The result of this study showed thatantihypertensive treatment
areamlodipin, captopril, valsartan, amlodipin+ captopril, amlodipin+ valsartan,
captoril+
valsartan
danamlodipin+
captopril+
valsartan.
Antidiabetictreatmentareanalog insulin, metforminand analog insulin+ metformin.
Antihypertensive therapy which is the most cost-effective based CEA and
ICER is amlodipin+ captopril andantidiabetictherapy which is the most costeffective based CEA and ICER is metformin.
