The concepts were derived from the blueprint of the questionnaire for the experts consisting of five concepts, namely reading skills, teaching reading, features of connected text, computer-assisted language learning, and conditions for optimal language learning environments. The mean for the first concept, reading skills, was 3.6. It showed that the designed material have provided the appropriate way to support the students in improving their reading ability. It was clearly seen from the mean for each point in the reading skills concept was in the range of three to four which was considered quite good but it still needs improvement. The material were considered good in assisting the students in increasing their ability to understand the text, finding the topic idea of the text, finding specific information on the text, and picturing the whole picture of the text being read. The designed material reflected teaching readings concepts. It was proven by the mean of this concept which was four. The experts saw that the designed material exploited the students to use their background knowledge when they read, helped the students by providing list of vocabulary and exercises to use the vocabulary in the correct form. Thus, the designed material fitted the difficulty level of the students. The concept of features related to connected text was presented well in the designed material. The mean for this concept was 3.7 which were considered good. The designed material used texts which were easily understood by the students, it had minimum grammatical mistakes, the main ideas were easily found 85 and the difficulty level was in the same range as the students’ difficulty level in reading. Computer-assisted language learning concept was carefully designed and deployed in the designed material. It was in line with t he experts’ opinion and was proven by the mean of this concept which reached number four. The designed material selected the media fitted to the students’ ability with its fun exercises. Moreover, the designed material was completed with supportive illustrations which were well elaborated with the reading text. As a result, the designed material was having an interesting point which was able to grab the students’ attention to work on. The designed material were able to be used by the students for it was reflected the concept of conditions for optimal language learning environments. The designed material got 3.85 for the mean for this concept which could be concluded that the concepts were implemented and reflected in the designed material. The designed material used readable font, well selected background color, it had good navigation, and were easy to operate. Moreover, it provided feedbacks to the students and it could be used to promote autonomous learning into the students’ learning process. The mean then interpreted using Dornyei ’s 2003 criteria. According to Dornyei 2003, if the mean was in the range of 3.00 – 3.99, it meant that the material needed to be explored more in order to out shine the strengths that could be used for improvement. The mean of the designed material was 3.8 which meant the material needed to be explored. The exploration will be in line with the revision and improvement process so it would be a complete package when it is 86 distributed to the students for gaining their feedback towards the designed material.

e. The Analysis of the Experts’ Judgments Results

The questionnaires were distributed to the respondents for about two weeks. The respondents were given the copy of the material and also the questionnaire. After all questionnaires were sent back to the writer, the writer had enough time to analyze the results and make revisions before the material were given to the students. General opinions of the designed material were positive. Most of respondents said that the material were interesting and could pump up the students’ motivation in learning English. It gave fun learning experience and attracted the students to dig more on the material. The material was considered appropriate to be given to the seven grade students who are more to be technology savvy. The strengths of an instructional design could give big contribution to the usage of the design itself. In the questionnaire, respondents were also asked to give their opinion towards the strengths of the designed material. Most of them agreed that the designed material fitted to the needs of seven grade students in accommodating their English learning process. The interesting look and various kinds of exercises provided in the material were able to give additional points to attr act students’ attention to learn English. Besides, most of the respondents saw that the designed material could really boost up the students’ motivation in learning English and increase their ability to learn the material autonomously. 87 The designed material was subject to revise and improves. The revision phase will be done to close the leaks and to improve the material so that it will be ready to be used by the students. There were weaknesses of the designed material that are read by the respondents. First, there were some grammatical mistakes on the designed material. The grammatical mistake was so small but it could give or lead wrong perception for the students. Second, a correct selection of diction should get more attention. The use of correct diction will make the sentence understandable for the students. Third, scoring system was not totally work as expected. There was some miscounting in the scoring system, for example giving zero score for a correct answer. Fourth, unclear navigation needed to be revised. The navigation in the designed material was not clear enough and it could give wrong lead or instruction to the students when they are working on the material. Fifth, it took long time for the material preparation. Based on the suggestions for improvement given by the respondents, there were four main parts of the designed material that need to be improved. The improvement will give beneficial impact to the learning material, especially in the implementation process. The suggestions for improvement covered four points, namely 1 revising grammatical mistakes and diction selection, 2 revising the scoring system, 3 revising the navigation, and 4 revising the lay-out. There were some grammatical mistakes in the learning material. Though it was not the fatal one, but revision should be made in order to minimize confusion o n the students’ side. Moreover, there was also some incorrect diction used in the learning material. To improve the learning material ’ quality, revision was a must. 88 It would be better to check all of the reading texts and exercises and replace the incorrect diction selection with the correct one. When the learning material was given to the experts to gain opinion and feedback, it was found that the scoring system for one or two exercises didn’t work well. To support the whole system to work well, the error scoring system should get careful attention and need to be revised. The first thing that needed to be done was checking the error, finding out the source of error and fixing it. To guide the students in learning using the designed material, clear and concise navigation are the important key. However, in the learning material, the navigation was not totally worked as expected. As a result, re-analysis and revision were the ultimate solution for this problem. By having user friendly navigation, it would help the students much when they were working on the learning material without depending on the teacher’s explanation. Thus, this would be one of the supporting features to promote autonomous learning in using the learning material. Based on the feedbacks from the experts’ judgment, the lay-out needed to be revised. It would be better to provide clean and interesting lay- out. It didn’t mean that the current lay-out was not good but it needed to be re-arranged. By having simple yet interesting lay-out, it would ease the students in exploring the learning material and eliminate their difficulties in operating the computer-assisted learning material. By doing so, the whole process would support the autonomous learning among the students.
