He was interested in her and wanted to marry her. Misna told the prince that her mother had died and father went married to another woman. She was having a long trip with her loyal maid. Listening to this, her mother was very upset. She cried loudly Misna was very angry to her and told her to be away from her. Suddenly there was a heavy rain accompanied with big thunders. Everyone run away to save themselves. Misna was very afraid. She cried. Her mother wanted to help her but she did not want to at that time a big thunder hit her to dead. 17. VI. Materi Pembelajaran Tema: Narrative

a. Definition: A kind of text that has the function to amuse, entertain and to deal with actual or vicarious experience in different ways; Narratives deal with problematic events which lead to a crisis or turning point of some kind, which in turn finds a resolution. b. Generic Structure:  Orientation: Introduce the participants and setting of the narrative.  Complication: A crisis or problem arises.  Resolution: A crisis or problem is solved , for better or worse.  Re-orientation: This is closing remark to the story and it is optional  Code: The moral value of the story. c. Significant feature of narrative text are:  Characters, setting and actions are described in details, using adjectival and adverb.  Use of past tense with the possibility of using present tense and future tense in the dialogue.  Use of material process  Use of words dealing with time and sequence then, next, first, second, etc.  Can be told in the perpective of first person I, we or third person she, he, and they. d. Example: Malin Kundang A Long time ago, in a small village near the beach in West Sumatera, lived a woman and her son, Malin Kundang. Malin Kundang and his mother had to live hard because his father passed away when he was a baby. Maling Kundang was a healthy, diligent, and strong boy. He usually went to see to catch fish. After getting fish he would bring it to his mother, or sell the caught fish in the town. One day, when Malin Kundang was sailing as usual, he saw a merchant‟s ship which was being raided by a small band of pirates. With his brave and power, Maling Kundang defeated the pirates. The merchant was so happy and asked Malin Kundang to sail with him. Malin Kundang agreed in the hope to get a better life. He left his mother alone Many years later, Malin Kundang became wealthy. He had a huge ship and a lot of crews who worked loading trading goods. He was also married to a beautiful woman. When he was sailing on his trading journey, his ship landed on a coast near a small village. The local people recognized that it was Maing Kundang, a boy from the area. The news ran fast in the town : “ Malin Kundang has become rich and now he is here”. An old woman, wh o was Malin Kundang‟s mother, ran to the beach to meet the new rich merchant. She wanted to hug him to release her sadness of being lonely after a long time. When his mother came near him, Malin Kundang who was with his beautiful wife and his crews denied that she was his mother. She had pleaded Malin Kundang to look at her and admit that she was her mother. But he kept refusing to do it and yell ing at her. At last Malin Kundang said to her “Enough, old woman I have never had mother like you, a dirty and ugly woman” After that he ordered is crews to set sail to leave the old woman who was then full of sadness and anger. Finally, feeling enraged, she cursed Malin Kundang that he would turn into a stone if he didn‟t apologize to her. Malin Kundang just laughed and set sail. Suddenly a thunderstorm came in the quiet sea, wrecking his huge ship. He was thrown out to a small island. It was really too late for him to avoid his curse; he had turned into a stone.
