our mutual enemies, the dogs,” she said.
“I know only one trick to get away from dogs,” said the cat. “You should teach me some of

“Well, maybe someday, when I have the time, I may teach you a few of the simpler ones.”
Replied the fox airily. Just then they heard the barking of a pack of dogs in the distance. The
barking grew louder and louder, the dogs were coming in their direction! At once the cat ran to
the nearest tree and climbed into its branches, well out of reach of any dog. “This is the trick I

The clouds of ash over Yogyakarta produced by Mount Kelud’s eruptions have led thousands of tourists to
cancel their visits to the province, causing financial losses in the province’s tourist sector.
“The amount of financial losses affecting hotels in Yogyakarta has reached Rp 2 billion [US$169,808] per
day,” said Deddy Pranowo, the secretary of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association’s (PHRI)
Yogyakarta chapter, on Wednesday. He said other impacts caused by the thickness of ash blanketing the
hotels were also being felt. “The financial impact of cleaning the hotels and volcanic ash-related damage
is varied. The Quality Hotel in Yogyakarta, for instance, suffered losses worth Rp 200 million in cleaning
up volcanic ash and repairing damaged facilities,” said Deddy. “Tourists usually spend money on
souvenirs or locally-produced gifts, so the cancellations have caused great losses to the sector,” he added.
The head of the Indonesia Tour and Travel Agencies (ASITA) Yogyakarta chapter, Edwin Ismed, said
almost all tourists had cancelled their visits to Yogyakarta due to airport closures.
However, Edwin was optimistic that conditions would soon return to normal. Many foreign tourists, such
as from Japan and Singapore, had started to enquire again about local conditions, he claimed. “With
Adisutjipto International Airport resuming its operations, we are sure that both domestic and foreign
tourists will soon return to Yogyakarta,” said Edwin. (idb/ebf)

Giant pandas live in a few mountain ranges in central China, in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu
provinces. They once lived in lowland areas, but farming, forest clearing, and other development
now restrict giant pandas to the mountains.

The giant panda, a black-and-white bear, has a body typical of bears. It has black fur on ears, eye
patches, muzzle, legs, and shoulders. The rest of the animal's coat is white. Although scientists
do not know why these unusual bears are black and white, some speculate that the bold coloring
provides effective camouflage into their shade-dappled snowy and rocky surroundings. The
panda's thick, wooly coat keeps it warm in the cool forests of its habitat. Giant pandas have large
molar teeth and strong jaw muscles for crushing tough bamboo. Many people find these chunky,
lumbering animals to be cute, but giant pandas can be as dangerous as any other bear.
About the size of an American black bear, giant pandas stand between two and three feet tall at
the shoulder (on all four legs), and reach four to six feet long. Males are larger than females,
weighing up to 250 pounds in the wild. Females rarely reach 220 pounds.

C. Giant pandas have large molar teeth and strong jaw muscles for crushing tough bamboo.
D. The panda's thick, wooly coat avoids it warm in the cool forests of its habitat.

If you look at your fingernail you will see a half moon shape that is lighter in color than the rest of your
fingernail. This is called the lunula or matrix and the point from which your fingernail grows. This
fingernail root is partially covered by the fingernail cuticle and is produced from living cells within the
finger.
The fingernail has many parts. The main part of the nail, which is the part we refer to as the fingernail, is
actually called the nail plate. It is made of hardened protein and is similar to the hoof of an animal. Next,
there is the nail bed, which is under the fingernail, the cuticle that protects infection from getting under
and around the nails, and the nail folds on the side, which keep the nails in place.
As the cells in the finger produce new keratin to form the fingernail, it gathers at the base of the nail plate
and is eventually pushed up and out. At new fingernail materials are pushed out, old fingernail material is
pushed past the end of the fingertip making the fingernails longer. This dead fingernail material can then
be cut or groomed. For this reason, the only way to improve fingernail growth is to improve nutrition.
Fingernails tend to grow slowly and at the average rage of .01 mm a day. Of course, different people's
fingernails grow faster or slower. Fingernails tend to grow faster than toenails, and fingernails on the
dominant hand also grow faster probably because of greater circulation.

The benefits of homework has been debated by teachers and parents for years as the very word evokes
very negative connotations to every involved, students, parents and teachers. Although many people think
of homework as doing more harm than good by causing copious amounts of unnecessary stress to
everyone, others believe that it has great advantages for children by encouraging them to think more
independently outside the classroom.
The first benefit of homework is that it allows students and teachers to work more closely together. They
can discuss their assignments or any problems that they are having with parts of their textbooks, before or
after classes.
The second benefit is that it can bring families closer together as students may ask their parents or
siblings for help on their homework. Not only will this help the students get a better understanding of
their work with any parts they are stuck on, it will also allow parents to get more involved in their child's
educational life.
Thirdly, doing homework will prepare students for the big end tests. If a child does poorly on an
assignment then they will learn what is necessary to do well on the next test without being punished. It
also provides students with the opportunity to practice at what it takes to be successful in school. Like
they say, practice makes perfect.
Doing homework is also a great way to develop responsibilities. By being assigned work one day and
knowing that it has to be done by the next day, they will develop a sense of punctuality by turning their
work in on time.
And finally it allows parents to see how their children are being educated and they can develop a better
idea of how they can help their child. However, some parents, students and even some teachers feel that
after 7-8 hours of lessons in school, it is unfair to expect students to come home and work for another
three hours.

A. pro and contra of homework

1,188 people were executed in the US from 1977 through 2009, primarily by means of
lethal injection. Most death penalty cases involve the execution of murderers although capital
punishment can also be applied for treason, espionage, and other crimes.
Proponents of the death penalty say it is an important tool for preserving law and order, deters
crime, and costs less than life imprisonment. They argue that retribution or "an eye for an eye"
honors the victim, helps console grieving families, and ensures that the perpetrators of heinous
crimes never have an opportunity to cause future tragedy.
Opponents of capital punishment say it has no deterrent effect on crime, wrongly gives
governments the power to take human life, and perpetuates social injustices by
disproportionately targeting people of color (racist) and people who cannot afford good attorneys

(classist). They say lifetime jail sentences are a more severe and less expensive punishment than
death.

Hello
This is a true story of something I can't explain that happened to me when I was younger. Please read
through it and tell me what you think.
(1)The noise continued as I just stared at the closed window shades. (2)I was not asleep yet, not even
tired. (3)I was just staring up at my ceiling when I heard what I thought was something at my

window. (4)I was always scared of nonsense things from watching to many horror movies, so I was
reluctant to look through my window shades into the night. (5) It was a summer night.
It sounded like scratching or dull scraping. I tried to ignore it and lay down, but it continued, getting
louder and louder. I know that it was not a dream because I was fully conscious and even pinched myself
so hard I had a welp the next day. Anyway, I gathered all of my courage and crept slowly to my window. I
held my finger out and raised one of the blinds. I had my eyes closed doing this. I opened my eyes and
looked out. My eyes met another pair of eyes. What I saw will haunt me for all of my life. It was about 15
feet away from my window. It was a naked dark grey creature about 3 of 4 feet tall. I immediately shut
the blind and ran out of my room. I was in the hallway when something strange happened. I was running
when my eyes rolled up in to my head and all I saw was black. The next thing I knew I faced down in my
bed. My parents said they heard nothing and did not find me on the floor or place me in my bed. I have
never fainted or passed out before, so I don’t know what happened in the hallway. Please give me your
say on what you think happened or any similar experiences you have had.
Thanks,

ESSAY
There is an estimated 200 million children forced to work across the globe. That’s without taking into
account the other 150 million considered “economically active” (i.e. in part time jobs, sometimes just to
help out a bit their families, sometimes because they don't have the choice).
Except cases of children running away or being abandoned, most of the time they work because they have
to, because their parents need them to. Everybody’s got to work if the family’s to survive.
However, the cost of an all-out war on child labor would be over $750 billion over a period of 20 years.
This is a huge amount of money but it should be counter-balanced with the economic benefit of educating
and preserving a whole generation from diseases - estimated at 4 trillion dollars.

Only thing is, to see this result you’d have to wait twenty years, and politicians at least are not so patient.
The only way out is if people bring it to the agenda and force governments to make it a priority (by
voting, talking about it & bringing it up in the media and public debates, etc...).
Families shouldn’t be blamed and cut from any kind of social support they may be allowed to, on the
contrary; If you do ban child labor but don’t do anything to support the families, everything will only get
worse for everyone in the household. New forms of child poverty will then kick in, “spearheaded” by
malnutrition.
