ABSTRACT

The non-optimal implementation of nursing care can be caused by the factors
of workload and work-stress. The preliminary survey conducted at RSU Melati,
Perbaungan, indicated that the system of regulating job rotation in the hospital was
not consistent since there were nurses who did their job outside their primary task
and 80% of them claimed that the environment decreased their morale.
The aim of the research was to analyze the correlation between workload and
work-stress and the nurses on duty’s performance in the inpatient wards at RSU
Melati, Perbaungan, in 2012. The research used cross sectional design on all 43
nurses in the inpatient wards. The data were gathered by distributing questionnaires
and analyzed by correlation statistic test of Product Moment Pearson.
The result of the research showed that there was a significant correlation
between workload and work-stress and performance with varied levels of significance

and correlation.
A maximal nursing care as the indicators of the success in a hospital’s
service, in the adjustment of nurses’ primary task, in job rotation, and in scheduled
supervision in order to take care of the employees’ welfare and to make the
communication between employees and their superior closer should get special
attention from the stakeholders of RSU Melati, Perbaungan.
