Comparative Test Efficiency of Rice Milling Industry, Case Study: Two Sub-Districts in Cianjur Regency, West Java Province

Total land area that used this type of irrigation is 1051.8 hectare 82.42 percent. While the types of semi-technical irrigation and rain-fed respectively covering a land area of 190.81 hectare 14.95 percent and 33.59 hectare 2.63 percent. Meanwhile, total area of dry land and its uses presented in Table 4. Most of the dry land is used for forest country with a total land area of 1,531.63 hectares 43.60 percent. While the use of dry land for a pool of only 30.10 hectares 0.86 percent. As one of the paddy producer in Cianjur Regency, in Gekbrong certainly there is rice milling industry. In this industry, paddy is converted into rice that is ready to be consumed. Hence, there is value added to paddy from these industrial activities. Every village in Gekbrong has at least one rice milling business. The number of rice mills, by village in Gekbrong is shows in Table 5. This carried out in the same time with field research. Hence, the study used all sample of rice mills population in Gekbrong.

5.2.2 Warungkondang Sub-District

Similar to Gekbrong, Warungkondang is also located in the northern region of Cianjur Regency. Gekbrong is an expansion sub-district of Warungkondang on October 12 th , 2004. An expansion is based on local regulation of Cianjur Regency No. 05 Date January 29 th 2004. Warungkondang has an area of 5,508 hectares with 63,748 inhabitants. It consists of 11 villages, namely Bunikasih, Bunisari, Cieundeur, Cikaroya, Cisarandi, Ciwalen, Jambudipa, Mekarwangi, Sukamulya, Sukawangi, dan Tegalega. The administrative boundaries of Warungkondang sub-districts as follows: North side : Cugenang sub-district and Cianjur sub-district South side : Gekbrong sub-district West side : Sukabumi Regency East side : Cibeber sub-district Warungkondang is also a sub-district that produces rice. The rice produced in the sub-district is flavorful and fluffier rice. This is variety of pandan wangi paddy. In the market, the price of rice is high comparing to other types of rice. As in Gekbrong, in Warungkondang also found the rice milling business. The number of rice mills, by village in Warungkondang is presented in Table 6. Otherwise, Mekarwangi has the less number of rice millers. Total number of rice millers in Warungkondang is 77 units. Similar to Gekbrong, this information also was obtained from Statistics Indonesia. The number of rice mills in Warungkondang was more than in Gekbrong. Based on the information, the study only used 64.94 percent of all rice mills in Warungkondang.
