learning reading and reading ability to improve the levels of achievement of struggling students.
A. CONCLUSION Improving Reading Ability
Although the focus of this action research was to solve an actual problem in teaching of reading ability, the writer hoped that the time
spent working with the students in this group would yield a quantifiable measure of improvement. According to the report learning process and
the outcome assessment, the students in this study showed improvement in their reading ability levels. This however, shows only limited evidence
that the researcher expectations were met, because their scores did not improve at a greater rate than those of the Grade 7 students who did not
participate in the study. The writer
think that the students‘ report learning process and their outcome results were useful to collect for triangulation purposes, as
they helped to verify the qualitative data, but she do not feel that they determined her level of success in this action research.
The researcher feels there are many possible reasons why the outcome results did not indicate more improvement by the students. The
learning outcome assessment allows students a choice of texts to learn and to read but some learners select the shortest passage, which is often
more difficult to do the task if the texts more longer. If the researcher was
to revise the action research study, she would observe the behavior of the students as they wrote the learning outcome assessments, to ensure that
they like the texts that interested them and that they were capable of learning reading. This lack of interest her has been the reason for the
dramatic increase and decreases in Zion results or may be subjectively that Zion was the son of the researcher
‘ critical friend when conducting this action researcher. He may have selected a passage that did not
interest him in the second term. If the researcher was to repeat this research, she would want to observe the students to determine if they used
the strategies practiced in this session when completing the learning outcome assessment. This would be a better indicator of her impact.
The conclusions the researcher drew from this action research answered her initial questions. The students showed improvement in their
reading ability through local text with scanning during student‘s
participation in this study, but the areas of improvement seen cannot necessarily be attributed to the teaching learning process. Reading
requires a wide range of skills, and the students learned a variety of skills from others during the research study.
