3. Learning Journal Notes.

Throughout the study, the writer kept a learning journal to record the progress of this developing research. She concur with Delong et al. 2005 when they state that the purpose of a journal is to record memorable observations, aid in reflection on the research as it unfolds, and help revise and improve actions for the future p.39. The journal included her predictions, plans, implementation notes, data analysis, tentative conclusions, and other thoughts about the research and its development and also learning process. The researcher also kept observational notes in her learning journal about the students‘ individual efforts and interest as the completed of all the activities. The writer collected a variety of quantitative data about the students‘ learning during the course of this study. These include students‘ scanning and skimming with local text statistics, learning process and learning outcome, over the shoulder miscue analysis results, and class attendance records.

4. Students‟ „Treatment‟

The rese archer summarized the students‘ treatment refers to very her own term taken from the teacher‘s data software in January and again in March. Only one student followed the treatment in February. The writer observed details about each student and about the group in general. She made note of how students struggle in skimming with local text and find out specific information in scanning with local text. The writer also asked the ten students to look through their content map to get full understanding in scanning and skimming. Based on this information, the researcher calculated the percentage of scanning with local text versus skimming with local text in January and again in March. The researcher, then, written down the abbreviations as representative of the name of months. She focused on data collection on April 2011.
