B. FINDING PERTAINING TO THE GROUP

This section will detail the findings related to the group as a whole. Although interest and participation levels sometimes waned, 100 of the students remained in the study until its completion. All of the ten students mentioned at one time or another during the study that they enjoyed coming out of class to assist in this research. Although they seemed happy to be part of the group, this did not always translate into a positive work ethic when there was a task to complete. The students shared similar attitudes and patterns when it came to the process of learning reading. At the beginning of the study, the researcher immediately classified these students as reluctant learners based on my ―professional judgment.‖ She later saw that the students were not always reluctant to learn; their hesitance depended on the task presented to them. For example, the students were engaged in learning activities when allowed to learn other texts from the library. As the writer collated the data, she discovered that she could categorize these findings about the students ‘ learning reading behaviors into six areas. Thus, the following observations and descriptions apply to all of the students in the study. They also shared a narrow view of the learning reading process and an inadequate understanding of the reading genres available to them. The writer also noticed that they showed a limited ability to use metacognition skills to effectively solve learning reading challenges. Students‟ Meaning of Local Text The students in this study all described local text as a Papuan story. This perception is very limiting. When asked local text from other places in Indonesia, they seemed silent. No one has comment on this question. The researcher asked again to ensure students understanding of local text, one of the students said it was a story from a local place. Until the end of this study, only three of students giving comment on this local text. They were vary; one shouted that it was a text that the English teacher used to teach them, one other said, perhaps it was very nearby we live, and last one student argued that local text derived from old stories stay and lived with them. For the last comment, the researcher did not ask again of what she meant.
