b. Action
During this step, the researcher played his role as an observer. Based on the agreement with the lecturer of CRW II which was made before conducting the
research, the researcher did not teach in the classroom due to the responsibility of students’ academic study in the university belongs to the lecturer, and the
researcher was not supposed to take the responsibility. The teaching activities were conducted by the lecturer of CRW II.
Cycle 1 was conducted in two meetings on March 23
rd
2016 and March 30
th
2016. The first meeting was conducted on Wednesday, March 23
rd
2016 at 07.00 a.m. at E-Corner classroom. The lecturer greeted the students and reminded
that they only have one week remaining to submit the argumentative essay as their mid-term test. The lecturer did not review last week materials on argumentative
essay. He directly asked the students to work in group, distributed the scoring rubric, and gave brief explanation on the learning activities. The students were
very crowded at the beginning. Some students were joking and they asked each other whether they brought their draft or not, and some of them did not bring the
draft. They answered the lecturer’s questions, listened to the instructions, and gathered in groups naturally by their seats, gender, and also inter-relationship
friendship. Two groups consisted of boys; only one group consisted of two girls and one boy.
The lecturer walked around to see students work and help students on their essay. The lecturer gave some suggestions to students writing. He paid attention
to the students very much by asking students’ progress one by one and checking PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI

each student to see whether they do their task or not. He also answered students questions individually or in group.
He did not always interfere in students’ work; he only gave directions once in a while. He made sure the students used English
during the class. He also reminded the students and give suggestions about the referencingciting rules based on APA standard.
The students were still talking to each other at the beginning; some students were busy with their cell-phone, and some of them were not even doing
anything. Some students moved to have more comfortable seats. After around 10 minutes, the students started to seriously discuss about their essay in each group.
One girl came late for 34 minutes at 07.34 a.m. She did not really work well on her essay, which was shown during the group discussion.
The students worked with their gadgets, laptops, and smart-phones. Some students actively asked the lecturer whenever they have problems in assessing
their peers’ essays organization, citation, arguments, etc. Some students visited
other groups to have further discussion with other friends work and to help their friends on their essayassessing the essay. Some students still used Indonesian
language during the class. The lecturer closed the class by reminding the students to submit the
second draft in the following week. The students were happy for the information. They paid attention to the lecturer and gave appropriate response to the lecturer.
In the end of the class, the lecturer asked the students to submit the scoring rubric. The students responded the instruction positively and submitted the scoring rubric

The second meeting was conducted on Wednesday, March 30
th
2016 at 07.00 a.m. at E-Corner classroom. The lecturer did not review the previous
materials on argumentative essay; he distributed the result of the first quiz instead. The lecturer also distributed the scoring rubric gave further explanation on the
scoring rubric; he also highlighted the importance of using reliable sources in their argumentative essay. The lecturer gave the students the due date of the essay:
Friday, April 8

2016. The students checked the scores of their first quiz. Some students still
talked among themselves during the lecturer’s explanation. One student still asked
a question to the lecturer about the scoring rubric which showed that she had not paid attention to the lecturer. After a moment, the students paid attention to the
lecturer. After that, the students gathered in the same group from the previous meeting and started working on their essay.
The lecturer used the same time management. He walked around to read students essay, give comments on the essay, and help the students with their
problems. The lecturer also gave written feedback on the students essay. He answered questions and explained things personally or in group. He also helped
the students to solve their problems on citation. Some students used Indonesian language during the discussions. The class
was different from the last meeting; the students were a bit silent and sleepy. However, there were still some students who talked to each other; some students
