The criteria of the effect size are as follows: d = 0
– 0.20 = weak effect d = 0.21
– 0.50 = modest effect d = 0.51
– 1.00 = moderate effect d = 100
= strong effect.

G. Statistical Hypothesis
The t-test was administered to prove the hypothesis of this research. The statistical hypothesis can be seen as follows:
: :
: sudents‟ reading comprehension who are taught by using SQ3R method : students‟ reading comprehension who are taught without SQ3R method
Meanwhile, the criteria used as follows: 1. If the t-test
in significant degree of 0.05, Ho null hypothesis is rejected
. That means the experimental group‟s rates of mean score are higher than control group. Consequently, the using of SQ3R method on
students‟ reading comprehension is effective. 2. If the t-test
in significant degree of 0.05, Ho null hypothesis is accepted
. That means the experimental group‟s rates of mean score are lower than control group. Consequently, the using of SQ3R method on
students‟ reading comprehension is not effective.

CHAPTER IV RESEARCH FINDING AND DISCUSSION
This chapter discusses the research finding and discussion after the research is done that consists of the description of the data, analysis of the data,
test of hypothesis, and interpretation of the data.
A. Description of the Data
The research was conducted at SMAN 7 Tangerang Selatan which was started from April 12, 2016 until May 17, 2016. The writer took two classes
among ten classes of 10
th
grade for this research, one as an experimental class, and another class as a control class. The control and experimental class were
chosen based on the English teacher’s suggestion. As stated in the previous chapter, the writer used quasi-experimental
research design in order to see the effectiveness of SQ3R method on students’ reading comprehension. The data that was used to see the result of the
research was obtained through pre-test and post-test from both control and experimental class.
In addition, t o know students’ reading comprehension before the treatment
was given, the result of pre-test from both control and experimental class was used. Meanwhile, the result of post-test from both control and experimental
class was used in order to see whether there was improvement on students’
reading comprehension after the treatment was given. Furthermore, the material that the writer used while giving treatment for
both control and experimental class was narrative text. The writer applied SQ3R method for teaching narrative text in experimental class, while the
conventional method was applied in the control class with the same material. Conventional method is a method which is usually used by the teacher such as
asking the students to read the narrative text, translate, and answer the questions based on the text. Meanwhile, the multiple choice question was used
to measure students’ reading comprehension achievement.
1. The Data Of Experimental Class
The Table 4.1 below shows the students’ pre-test and post-test
score of experimental class. There were 41 students in experimental class variable X.

Based on the table 4.1 above, it can be seen that the lowest score of pre-test in experimental class is 30 and the highest score is 85. After the
writer gave the treatment to the students by using SQ3R method, the scores gained. The data shows that the lowest score of post-test in
experimental class is 70 and the highest is 100. The result of pre-test and post-test on experimental class was
calculated by using SPSS Version 22 with the steps as follows; analyze- description statistic-frequencies.
