C. Object of the study
The object of this study the English summative test items at even semester of the second grade students at MTs. Pembangunan which is consist of 50 items
45 items of multiply choice and 5 items of essay.
D. Research Instrument
The research instrument used in this study is tabulation. It is used to analyze the data of the content validity of English summative test made by the English
teacher. It stated for the files or data which represent the second grade students’ score in the English summative test was held on Thursday, 11
th
June 2009. Besides, it is also used to gain the data about English materials coverage by
English summative test appropriate with the content standard of the latest syllabus and validity of the English summative test made by English teacher of MTs.
Pembangunan.
E. Data and Source Data
Data of this study is the content validity of English summative tests at the even semester of the second grade students at MTs. Pembangunan. It was derived
from the teacher documents in term of teacher preparation, the English question sheet of summative test and the latest syllabus. The data about material of English
summative test items at even semester of the second grade students at MTs. Pembangunan is in line with the content standard of the latest syllabus were
obtained from the latest English syllabus, and were used to answer second research question.
F. Technique of Collecting Data
The technique of collecting data applied in this study is tabulation. It is means a technique to analyze the data using check list. So, the writer gets the clear
result of the research.
G. Technique of Data Analysis
The researcher analyzed the data obtained from tabulation. The researcher analyzes how is the content validity of the English summative test made by the
English summative teacher at MTs. Pembangunan. To find out these data, the researcher used the descriptive analysis
technique percentage, means it would describe using the table percentage of the conformity of summative test items to the themes in the syllabus, the conformity
of summative test items to indicators of reading, writing, and functional expression. Then, the total percentage of summative test items conformity to the
syllabus. The writer used the table percentage using formula to describe all the data:

The formula is used to see how many percent the summative test can cover the instructions of the curriculum. Qualitatively, the test items are studied in terms
of their conformity to the English syllabus. In addition, the writer also compares the percentage with the criteria adopted
from Arikunto’s opinion presented at table 3.1 below:

H. Research Findings and Discussions
