CHAPTER IV RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND RESEARCH FINDINGS

This chapter presents and discusses the research design, place and time of the study, subject of the study, research instrument, data and source data, techniques of collecting data, techniques of data analysis and research findings.

A. Research Design

Research design is one of the most important aspects in a research. The research designs of this study are descriptive and evaluative analysis about the content validity of English summative test items at even semester of the second grade students at MTs. Pembangunan UIN Jakarta. The purpose of this study is to describe and evaluate the content validity of English summative test items at even semester of the second grade students at MTs. Pembangunan. The descriptive study is designed to get the current status of phenomena. It is directed toward determining the nature of situation as it exists at the time of study in MTs. Pembangunan. It is called evaluative because it designs to evaluate objectively about the English summative test validity at even semester of the second grade students at MTs. Pembangunan based on “Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan”. The evaluation is conducted by way of analyzing the validity of the English summative test used at MTs. Pembangunan with the content standard of the “Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan”. This is also called analysis because it tries to analyze objectively whether the material coverage in English summative test which is made by English teacher of MTs. Pembangunan in line with the English syllabus and English textbook.

B. Place and Time of the Study

The writer did the research at MTs. Pembangunan which is located at Jl. Ibnu Taimia 4, Komplek UIN Jakarta. The writer conducted this research since April, 13 th 2009 to June, 14 th 2009.

C. Object of the study

The object of this study the English summative test items at even semester of the second grade students at MTs. Pembangunan which is consist of 50 items 45 items of multiply choice and 5 items of essay.

D. Research Instrument

The research instrument used in this study is tabulation. It is used to analyze the data of the content validity of English summative test made by the English teacher. It stated for the files or data which represent the second grade students’ score in the English summative test was held on Thursday, 11 th June 2009. Besides, it is also used to gain the data about English materials coverage by English summative test appropriate with the content standard of the latest syllabus and validity of the English summative test made by English teacher of MTs. Pembangunan.
