descriptively by deriving conclusions on the results of the teaching learning activities. Then, the results were used to make some necessary adjustments to improve the designed materials with the intention that it would provide acceptable and appropriate reading materials for the tenth grade students of SMA STELLA DUCE 1 Yogyakarta.

F. Research Procedure

In this study, the writer employed thirteen steps. These steps were the procedures of how the study was conducted:

1. Doing library research

2. Asking for permission to conduct research

3. Conducting Research and Information Collecting

4. Determining the competency standard, the basic competence, and the topics

5. Formulating the indicators

6. Determining and organizing the subject content

7. Determining and organizing the teaching and learning experiences

8. Designing the materials

9. Determining what to evaluate, the ways and the means of doing the

evaluation

10. Evaluating the instructional materials

11. Revising the instructional materials

12. Conducting the pilot study

13. Doing some necessary adjustments on the designed materials and the syllabus

CHAPTER IV RESEARCH FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter discusses the results of the study. There are two parts to discuss in this chapter. The first part is the material development. This part discusses about the processes of designing the materials. The purpose of this part is to answer the first question which is stated in chapter 1. In order to answer the first question, the writer employed the designed model of the study. The second part concerns with the designed materials. In this part, the aim is to answer the second question of the study. The writer shows the results of the designing of the materials. Furthermore, the writer also includes the results of the evaluation of the designed materials done by the users and the experts. They were two English teachers of SMA STELLA DUCE 1 Yogyakarta and two English lecturers of English Language Education Study Program of Sanata Dharma University. The feedbacks from the users and the experts were used to revise and improve the designed materials.

A. The Material Development

In this part, the writer discusses the steps which were conducted during the processes of designing the materials. The explanation of each step is as follows:

1. Conducting Diagnosis of Needs
