From the examples above, it could be seen that some students used does instead of whether to introduce a noun clause. According to the result of the
interview, however, the students committing these errors could simply correct them as they reread their sentences. And so, such errors were seen as temporary.
The next errors were related to the inappropriate use of subordinator which, who
, and that. These three subordinators should, definitely, be followed by a
finite verb. In many instances found in the students’ writing, these two subordinators were very often followed by words indicating non-finite clause,
such as V-ing and V-3. These sentences would be grammatically correct simply by the omission of the subordinator or by the changing of the non-finite verb into
finite. Some of the made errors could be observed below.

b. Use of comma
The use of comma, in this case, refers to the use of comma at the end of a dependent clause placed in front of the independent clause. Even though lack of
comma is not an essential error for it hardly ever leads to misleading, written language, especially that of scientific studies, very often demands excellent
punctuation for the sake of clarity.

71 Many students seemed to ignore this very punctuation mark in their writing
supposing the reader would understand whatever they wrote as easily as they did. It might be true in the case of short sentences. It might not be so in the case of
longer sentences. Many of those students, unfortunately, preferred the latter. Confirmed through the interview, the respondents making these neglects could
identify right away. The following were two examples the students wrote. As the correction may not merely on the use of comma, take a look at the comma
corrections only. 1 Original : By means of looking at these phenomena the writer wants to know

c. Incorrect verb formation
Incorrect verb formation refers to the incorrect formation of verbs in accordance with tense and aspect requirement. Past tense or past participle of a
regular or irregular verb is incorrectly formed, for example. Remembering that such errors are quite simple and easy to be corrected once they are spotted, this is,
undoubtedly, one of the temporary errors made by the students. It had been confirmed through the interview done after the document analysis. The examples
