Based on the observation result, it was able to activate the students to be more active in participating. Based on questionnaire result, the students stated that they were able to take part in English learning process and not just listened to the teacher. Active learning enabled the students to speak in English, enabled the students to ask and answer questions, and enabled the students to share opinion. During the implementation of active learning, the students were doing things and thinking about the things they were doing. They did not only speak or read or write without any consideration. The students were sometimes required to share their opinion about their friends‟ answers or opinion. It also enabled the students to think more seriously and to analyze more deeply. Since active learning method implemented by the researcher covered some activities which required student s‟ participation, the students did not only listen to the teacher during the whole class. The students had more opportunities to do something related to English learning process.

developing s tudents’ skill Before the implementation of active learning in English class, the English teacher focused on the theory of English. Therefore, the teacher lectured during English class. In the previous meetings, the students always listened to the teacher who explained many theories about English including grammar. The researcher involved the students to give their response and opinion. It was proved by the result of the questionnaire. For question number three, all students agreed that active learning helped them to develop their English abilities. Eighteen students out of twenty five students stated that active learning enabled the students to develop their speaking abilities. During the class, the researcher included class discussion and group discussion. This helped the students to speak English. Whenever the students shared opinions and answer or asked questions, the students were required to speak in English. Through those activities, the students were learning to speak in English. Besides speaking, students also felt that active learning helped them in developing their listening skill. There were fourteen students answered „listening‟ in their questionnaire. “The more students speak, the more they listen,” Pike, 1989 . It might be the impact of students‟ speaking in English class. They spoke much more in English class. Many pupils in class spoke in English. Therefore, the students could also develop their listening abilities since they were accustomed to listening to English besides having a listening class. It was also supported by Lewis Hill statement, “Speech activities are most valuable not only in helping the students to express their thoughts and develop their confidence but also in helping them to practice their language usage,” 2001: 26. Besides speaking and listening skills, the students developed their vocabularies and pronunciation. They felt their abilities in those two aspects increased.
