Kelsea has disagreements and differences in ways of thinking and desires which lead to conflict with other characters in the story. For example is the conflict between Kelsea and Lady Andrews. They debate about what is more important between life and property. As the heir of the throne of Tearling, Kelsea shall not be childish and stubborn and she shall decide to let Pen help her to build the tent. The moral message is being brave to take any risk for a better future. Kelsea stops the slavery by burning the slave cages and cancel the shipment so that her people will not suffer any longer. They will live their life in a proper way by taking the risk of Mort invasion. Kelsea thinks it is better to let the Mort come or make another Treaty that does not affect her people. The third message is drawn from the conflict between Kelsea and Lady Andrews. The message is fighting for human rights which contains the moral value of humanity. In this confl ict, Kelsea tries to fight for her people’s life. She wants to give her people a new life and end the slavery while Lady Andrews is worried about her property. Lady Andrews thinks people’s rights to live is not as worth as her property. On the contrary, Kelsea thinks that her people’s right to live their life properly is everything for her because she thinks property can be purchased but a life cannot. The last message that the writer finds is on Kelsea’s conflict with Lazarus of The Mace. The moral message is to be consistent and never stop believing. In this situation, if Kelsea is not consistent with her belief, she will not stop the illegal shipment. It is wise for her to do it so that she can save the people from illegal slave shipment.
