Kelsea’s Conflict againts Pen.

Kelsea wants to come after the shipment before it is too late, but Lazarus and the Queen’s Guards do not believe on Kelsea’s vision and they disagree to chase the shipment in the middle of the night. They think it will hard to track the shipment on night time and the Queen’s guards also need some rest. They assume that it is just a dream. Kelsea is very sure about her dream. Kelsea sees Thorne and his entourages are doing an illegal shipment. She lets Lazarus of the Mace and the Queens Guards to choose, whether they are going to join her or stay in the Keep. She thinks it is needed to let some of the guards stay at the keep to protect the women and children. Kelsea insists to chase the shipment by herself, if Mace and the Queen’s Guards refuse to join her. Kelsea assumes if she late, she will lose more of her people. In the end, they accompany Kelsea with a disappointed face. They still think it is merely a bad dream and it is wasting of time to do such thing on a night time. After a long pursuit, they find the illegal shipment. They are ashamed for not believing and they also apologize for not being loyal to Kelsea in the beginning. After all, Kelsea and the Queen ’s Guards succesfully stop the illegal shipment. They save the people of the countryside of Tearling. The people are being grateful for what Kelsea did. They praise her like Kelsea is the saviour of Tearling. “Shut up” Kelsea shouted. “We’re all going to go. Pick a couple of guards to stay here with the women and children.” “No one’s going anywhere,” Mace growled. Wisdom and courage help Kelsea in making her decisions. Those characteristics are shown by Kelsea to prove that she deserves to be a true queen who puts the importance of her people above everything.

C. The Messages as Seen through Kelsea’s Response to Her Conflicts

In this section, the writer elaborates the messages that exist in every conflict that Kelsea faces. According to Kenny in How to Analyze Fiction, it is explained that when people are talking about a message, they usually also discusses the moral values. Thus, it can be concluded that the moral values could be a good or bad learning 1966: 89. Every problem-solving that Kelsea does reflects the implied messages contained the moral values in real life. Kelsea is a character that has the brave and wise characteristics. Because of her characteristics, Kelsea also faces some internal and external conflicts. The writer can conclude the moral messages by seeing how Kelsea deals with her conflicts.

1. Be Wise in Taking any Decision

The first message can be seen through most internal conflicts that Kelsea faces. The dilemma that she faces on her way back to Tearling reveals the message the writer tries to find out. She chooses to be the leader of Tearling, as a queen which is a wise decision that she has chosen. She prefers to leave all her memories and hesitancy to save the people of Tearling who really need a savior at that time.
