CHAPTER V CONCLUSION

In this chapter, the writer draws conclusions from the analysis which has been discussed in the previous chapter. The writer uses the novel The Queen of the Tearling as the object of study. The conflicts faced by Kelsea, the main character in the novel, contains messages which are essential for writer to conduct this study. The conflicts faced by Kelsea is about how she becomes a True Queen who can rescue and welfare the people of Tearling, a queen who can rule the kingdom with the moral value of justice and humanity. This study discusses the characteristics of the main character, the c haracter’s conflicts, and messages that can be derived from the conflicts experienced by the main character. First, the writer analyzes the characteristics of Kelsea, the main character in the story. There are two characteristics that the writer can find in Kelsea. Kelsea’s characteristic is brave and wise. Both characteristic greatly influence what Kelsea does in the story. Kelsea’s characteristics is shown through her actions, thoughts and words that she says. The problem-solving that she does is also describes her characteristics properly. Second, the writer analyzes the conflicts that Kelsea faces in the novel The Queen of the Tearling. Kelsea as the main character in the story faces internal and external conflicts. Kelsea faces her internal conflicts when she hesitated about what PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI she should decide for the future. Most of her internal conflict is revealed when she is on her way back to Tearling and before being the queen of Tearling. Regarding the external conflict, the writer concludes that the conflicts often encountered by Kelsea is with the people around her. The external conflicts also happens after she is being the queen. Kelsea has disagreements and differences in ways of thinking and desires which lead to conflict with other characters in the story. For example is the conflict between Kelsea and Lady Andrews. They debate about what is more important between life and property. After the writer is able to analyze the conflicts faced by Kelsea, the writer is able to reveal the messages contained in the conflict. From every conflict that Kelsea faces, the writer concludes that most of the messages contain moral value of humanity and justice. The moral value of humanity and justice can be seen when Kelsea is fighting for the people’s rights and protecting the poor from the slavery. The first message that the writer can find is to be wise in taking any decision. The first evidence that the writer finds is on Kelsea’s internal conflict. It is when Kelsea hesitated to claim her throne. She feels scared for what comes next on Tearling. She does not want her life to be different and she almost turn back to her cottage for she is scared to rule the Tearling. In the end, she decides to claim the throne and rule Tearling for the goods of her people. Another evidences is when she has a conflict with Pen. As the heir of the throne of Tearling, Kelsea shall not be childish and stubborn and she shall decide to let Pen help her to build the tent.
