d. Students’ Mastery of Preposition in Indicating Time
In this part of discussion, the researcher presents the students’ mastery of preposition in indicating time based on the test results. The illustration of
students’ errors in using preposition in indicating time could be seen in Table 4.9.

Table 4.9 shows there were many students who made errors in almost all items investigating preposition in in Part 1. In this part, the test items investigating
preposition in indicating time that were problematic to the students fell on items numbers 6, 10, and number 20. There were twenty nine students 47.5 who
made error in answering item number 6, twenty seven students 44.3 who made error in answering item number 10, and there were forty six students 75.4 who
made error in answering item number 20. Meanwhile, the test items that were considered easy for the students in this part fell on items numbers 14 and 16.
There were sixteen students 26.2 out of sixty one becoming the respondents failed to answer item number 14 correctly, whereas in item number 16, there were
twenty three students 37.7 who failed to answer this item correctly.

70 In Part 1, the most difficult test item investigating preposition in indicating
time fell on item number 20. There were forty six students 75.4 who failed to answer correctly in this item. They tended to choose preposition on to answer this
item. Most of them also tended to choose this preposition to answer item number 10. Meanwhile, to answer item number 6, they tended to choose preposition at.
In Part 2 number 2, there were twenty students 32.8 who failed to answer this item correctly. It means that most of the students did not face any
difficulty in answering the test item investigating preposition in indicating time in translation part. Thus, the students’ mastery of preposition in could be seen in
Table 4.10.

The same formula to count the percentage of students’ achievement in prepositions at was used to count the percentage of students’ achievement in
prepositions in. The percentage of students’ achievement in preposition in was 60.1. This percentage revealed that the students’ ability in using preposition in
was sufficient. Although it reached the minimum standard of mastery, the percentage of students’ achievement in this preposition was also still far from
good quality. It means that the students still need to improve their mastery of this preposition.
