It is classified into casual style because Sam uses language that gives impression of informality, non-standard language. It is one of the characteristics of casual style. In his second and third utterances, he uses standard language so it is classified into formal style. In the forth utterance, Sam speaks formally by saying words grammatically. The next utterance by Sam is classified into casual and formal styles. It is classified into casual style because he repeats his words. That is one of the characteristics of informal language. But, he speaks grammatically in the every sentences in it. In the sixth utterance, he says words grammatically ‘Will you look that way?’ that indicates formality, so it is classified into formal style. The seventh utterance by Sam is classified into formal style because he uses standard language. The last utterance by Sam is classified into casual style because he says ‘oh, yeah. Yeah’ that indicates informality.

In his second utterance, he speaks casually with Lucy. The words ‘I love you like in the song’, ‘I was thinking about you all the time’can also indicate that the conversation belongs to intimate style, because the words can give an intimacy signal as Joos told in his theory. In addition, in intimate style, it might embarrass some for non group members to hear them in group intimate language. In the data, we can see that Sam is telling all of her feeling to Lucy about how much he loves her. It is a private language, so it might embarrass some for non-group members tohear them in-group intimate language. But, he also uses standard language that gives the impression of formality. So, it is classified into three styles, they are casual, intimate, and formal styles. Second Dialogue Lucy: Daddy? Sam: Hi. Randy: What are you doing here? Sam: I live here. Randy: What do you mean you live here? Sam: Actually, I live here. Lucy: This is where you live? So close to me? Sam: Yeah, because I wanted to be close.
