c. The Course Participants

’ Difficulties that They Found During Their Involvement in the Course Considering the participants’ difficulties they found during the course is necessary in order to develop a contextual English course. The interview has revealed the participants’ difficulties during the course they were involved into through the interview question of “Apakah halangan yang kamu temui selama mengikuti kursus bahasa Inggris tersebut?” What difficulties you found during your involvement into the English course?. Two out of six interviewees stated that they did not face any difficulty during the course. Four interviewees stated conversely that they met some difficulties. Among those difficulties they faced were: the vocabulary acquisition, the allocated time for the course co nsidered as limited, the participants’ lack of material comprehension, the unsupportive class situation and the lack of tutors’ capability in delivering the materials. However, they were some strategies the participants conducted in overcoming those difficulties and restrictions. One of the interviewees stated that bringing dictionary and enrolling to an English course held by another institution were the strategies in overcoming the difficulties she found during the English course held by the school. The other interviewee stated that he had proposed the additional time for the English course. He also said that a fun English learning 62 with the use of music and videos might be the alternative ways in dealing with the difficulties the participants faced. The questionnaires on this topic gave different angle of seeing difficulties as perceived by the respondents, who were active participants of the course. Four out of nine respondents said “malas” or laziness as the difficulties they faced during the course, which is a total misconception to the intended meaning of difficulties. However, it reveals another problem the participants faced dealing with self-commitment. Three respondents stated that vocabulary memorizing was the big difficulty they faced alongside with pronunciation of the words. One respondents stated that the allocated time for the course, which was held after the school, made the participants exhausted.
