GLOSSARIUM

abangan : sebutan untuk golongan penduduk Jawa Muslim yang mempraktikkan Islam dalam versi yang lebih sinkretis bila dibandingkan dengan golongan santri yang lebih ortodoks. Istilah ini, yang berasal dari kata bahasa Jawa yang berarti ‚merah,‛ kali pertama digunakakan oleh Clifford Geertz untuk mengidentifikasi lapisan dalam masyarakat Jawa.

amr ma‘ru>f : ungkapan yang berasal dari ayat al- Qur’an nahi munka>r

yang berarti menyeru kepada kebaikan dan mencegah kemunkaran.

apoditik : istilah yang dipakai oleh Aristoteles untuk menunjukkan sesuatu yang tidak dapat diperdebatkan karena sudah pasti dan jelas

epifenomena : fenomena yang bukan penyebab sesungguh- nya, tetapi hanya terjadi akibat perubahan struktur materi.

epistemologi : Teori Pengetahuan yang berhubungan dengan hakikat dari ilmu pengetahuan, pengandaian- pengandaian, dasar-dasarnya serta pertang- gungjawaban atas pernyataan mengenai pengetahuan yang dimiliki oleh setiap manusia. Epsitemologi dari bahasa Yunani episteme (pengetahuan) dan logos (kata/ pembicaraan/ ilmu).

fit}rah : berasal dari bahasa Arab yang berarti membuka atau menguak. Fit}rah sendiri mempunyai makna asal kejadian, keadaan yang suci dan kembali ke asal. Fundamentalis : sebuah gerakan dalam sebuah aliran, paham -me

atau agama yang berupaya untuk kembali kepada apa yang diyakini sebagai dasar-dasar atau asas-asas (fondasi). Mereka menganggap diri sendiri lebih murni dan dengan demikian juga lebih benar daripada lawan-lawan mereka yang iman atau ajaran agamanya telah "tercemar". Karena itu mereka mengajak seluruh masyarakat luas agar taat terhadap teks-teks Kitab Suci yang otentik. Geneologi : Metode yang diperkenalkan oleh Michel Foucault dalam menganalisa suatu peristiwa

sejarah. Berbeda dari cara pandang teleologis, yang memandang sejarah sebagai gerak lurus yang bersifat linier, sedangkan geneologi melihat sejarah manusia sebagai hasil perjuangan, persaingan antar kelompok masyarakat dalam menginterpretasi dan mereinterpretasi suatu realitas.

habitus : Secara sederhana bermakna kebiasaan yang dimiliki seseorang atau kelompok tertentu. Dalam ilmu sosial, dipahami sebagai berbagai kecenderungan, kemampuan dan cara-cara bertindak yang dipelajari secara sosial yang dipandang sudah mapan. Hal itu didapatkan melalui berbagai aktivitas dan pengalaman habitus : Secara sederhana bermakna kebiasaan yang dimiliki seseorang atau kelompok tertentu. heterodoks : Paham yang dianggap menyimpang dari kepercayaan yang resmi atau yang telah mapan.

ijtih}a>d. : Berarti berusaha dengan sungguh-sungguh. Dalam pemikiran Islam klasik bermakna usaha untuk membuat suatu keputusan dalam lingkup hukum Islam, yang merupakan usaha yang bersifat pribadi, yang terbebas dari keterikatannya pada madhab fiqh tertentu. Ijtihad dalam era kontemporer ini digunakan untuk ‚kebebasan‛ berpikir yang terlepas dari keterikatan pada pendapat ulama terdahulu, yang tidak hanya terbatas pada hukum Islam, tetapi juga pada bidang-bidang yang lain.

kashf : secara etimo logis bermakna ‚pembukaan", yakni konsep dalam tradisi tasawuf yang berkaitan dengan pengetahuan dari hati, bukan dari intelek atau akal. Kashf pengalaman spiritual yang dicapai seseorang setelah melalui perjuangan rohani dan terungkapnya jantung spiritualitas sehingga memungkinkan kebenaran ilahi tertuang ke dalamnya.

otoritas : ‚wewenang‛ yang dimiliki seseorang karena status sosial yang dimilikinya. Dalam istilah Weberian berarti hak untuk memaksakan ketundukkan atas nama nilai-nilai dan aturan- aturan prilaku yang telah disepakati bersama antara orang yang menjalankan otoritas tersebut dan yang tunduk padanya.

priyai : panggilan untuk kaum ningrat atau bangsawan pada masyarakat Jawa. Istilah ini juga dipakai untuk elit tradisional pada tradisi hirarki masyarakat Jawa. Pada masa kolonial, istilah dipakai untuk pejabat pemerintah kolonial, sedangkan di era kemerdekaan dipergunakan untuk pejabat di birokrasi pemerintah.

santri : Santri adalah sebutan bagi murid yang mengikuti pendidikan di pondok pesantren. Istilah ini juga dipakai untuk menunjukkan lapisan dalam masyarakat Jawa yang taat menjalankan ajaran Islam. Karena itu kelompok santri dibedakan dari kelompok santri : Santri adalah sebutan bagi murid yang mengikuti pendidikan di pondok pesantren. tu>rath : Konsep yang diperkenalkan para pemikir Arab (Islam) kontemporer untuk mengidentifikasi tentang warisan budaya masa lalu dalam sejarah mereka berupa tingkah laku, etos kerja, pencapaian budaya dan karya-karya ilmiah.
