4. Organizing the Subject Contents

Organizing the subject contents was the next step in designing the material. Each unit consists of seven parts which have each goal and have each purpose to foster learners’ speaking ability. The contents of each unit were Warming Up, Vocabulary, Conversation, Language Focus, Practice, Speak Up . The purpose of the content is explained below.

a. Warming Up

It is included in pre-activity which activates learners’ curiosity of the topic. Some questions related to the topic help the learners to have short description of the topic that they were going to learn and to direct the learners to the topic they are going to discuss. Learners are asked to have small discussion in this part. However, the instructor can direct the class to have discussion in group or to have whole class discussion. Here, the discussion is good start for the learners to interact and communicate in English.

b. Vocabulary

Before the learners use the language in the sentence or utterance, the learners would learn to recognize the spelling and to pronounce the words in this part. It consists of some words used in the text. However, finding the meaning in the context should be the focus by the teachers. Teachers are to help the learners by giving correct pronunciation.

c. Conversation

It is a conversation of which the purpose was to introduce the learners to situation of a certain language focus in form of conversation. This part lets the learners to practice speaking with their partner. Teachers can modify the conversation by changing particular words with the words from the Vocabulary part. It will help the learners to enrich the material they receive.

d. Comprehension

It is the extension of the previous part in which learners are to answer some questions related to the previous part. It is to measure whether the learners have comprehended the text or not. There is one question which asks the language focus written in the text. The purpose is to help the learners to recognize the situation in which the utterances might happen.
