Figure 4.5 S tudent’s comment about language practice
From the figure 4.5, it is shown that by giving comments on Edmodo, he could express his idea that the language used by the writer was not clear enough
and it was needed to be fixed. Therefore, it proved that Edmodo could help them to do their language practice.
From the interview, some students also added more information related to the advantages of Edmodo in the use of giving comments. Student 5 felt that by
giving comments on other students’ work, they could pay attention on the use of
verbs. Moreover, the comments given would be permanent and not disappear. Thompson also mentioned that Edmodo had an excellent memory to keep all the
work done by students and teachers, so they would not lose their work. They could open it anytime, if someday they forgot. Student 2 also added that the comments
given could improve their writing. Furthermore, student 3 said that they could learn grammar through those
writings. Thus, Edmodo was helpful for the students and teachers in the learning process because it could provide a safe and an interesting learning medium, it could
help the students to have discussion with the teacher in a separated place, and it PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI
48 could ease the students to give comments on other students’ work. Nevertheless,
there were others who found the drawbacks of Edmodo, especially when it was used in their learning process. So, in this part the researcher presents about the drawbacks
of Edmodo, it was supported by the result of the interview below. The students did bullying, they mocked each other. He also added that the
students were not on time in sending the assignment, they liked to postpone it student 5. It commonly happened in the learning process that the students liked to
be the procrastinator in doing their assignments even though it is posted online Bayne, n.d, p. 2.
Next, Edmodo was not conducive, the students talked about something else that was not related to the materials student 4. Even there were some students who
did not focus on the learning especially those who sat in the back. They tended to play a game, an Instagram and others. Then, the assignments posted in Edmodo had
been explained yet, so it was better to be given for a home assignment student 3. In fact, all the interviewees argued that Edmodo needed a good internet connection,
whereas in their school, the internet connection was not good enough, particularly in their classroom.
From the result of the interview, it is shown that even though Edmodo has given the students some advantages but there are also some disadvantages for them.
After the researcher observed the response of the students, it is clearly that the problem is from the students themselves. They are lack of awareness about the
importance of media in their learning process. They still focus on their own business, they easily get distracted by the applications on their hand phone. Then,
49 about the internet connection, it is beyond the researcher’s capability. Actually the
researcher had provided them with the internet connection but it could not accommodate all the users in the classroom.
Hence, every medium which the teacher uses in the classroom not only has some benefits for students and their teacher but also it can give some downsides to
them. So, it is the main task for teachers to turn out all the weaknesses into the strength, so that it can bring the classroom more effective.
