3. The Influence of the Translation Technique Used by the Translator toward the Accuracy and Acceptability Level of the Translation

The good side or the bad side of the translation result is undeniably influenced by the technique used by the translator during the translation process. This section will discuss the influence of the translation technique toward the accuracy and acceptability level of the translation. The following table will show the percentage of the accuracy and acceptability level of each translation technique

Based on the table above, it can be seen that the first technique, translation using similar expressive meaning, has a high percentage of both accuracy and acceptability. This technique covers 87.27% for the accuracy and 94.4% for the acceptability. Dealing with the accuracy, it indicates that the translation which uses this technique can deliver not only the same idea but also the similar emotive effect of the swearing words or the language style of the speaker with the equivalent term. Due to maintain the expressive meaning, the translation itself usually sounds rude in the target language. Nevertheless, the swearing words accepted as linguistic and culture because the translation commonly used in the target language to express the strong emotion based on the situational context without break the social norms out. Therefore, both the accuracy and the acceptability can be reached.

The second technique that is translation using less expressive meaning which in fact has the highest percentage of all both accuracy and acceptability. This technique covers 92.857% for the accuracy and 100% for the acceptability.

This technique basically translates the swearing words using less offensive word. In other words, this translation has undergone euphemism. Correlating to the accuracy, the translation technique by using less expressive meaning is considered accurate. The strong emotion might be rude but gentler than the original. However, it does not reduce the acceptability of the translation because the essence of the message has been transferred to the target language without neglecting the situational context, grammar, and culture. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of this techniques does not lessen the accuracy and acceptability of the translation.

The next technique is translation using neutral words. This technique covers 56.66% for the accuracy and 100% for the acceptability. Fundamentally, this technique replaces the source language word which has expressive meaning only or both prepositional and expressive meaning into other word which is more neutral do to the subjective consideration dealing with the social norms in the target language society. As the consequence, the emotive effect of the original word lost in translation. In other words, the swearing word is translated into non swearing word in the target language. In accordance with the accuracy, this technique is considered accurate because the translation can transfer the similar meaning as the original even though the emotive sense of the original word based on the situational context can not be felt in the translation. This could happen because the translation undergoes euphemism to make the translation more polite and more acceptable in the target language. As a result, the translation is not only accepted in as a polite way to express emotion but also appropriate in the social norms of the target culture.

The translation technique using interjection has 80.8% for the accuracy which tends to be less accurate and 80.8% for the acceptability. Through this technique, the sound, word, or phrase that expresses a strong emotion such as pain or surprise is translated into gentler word in the target language. Dealing with the accuracy, in this case, this technique can not really deliver the same information and emotion of the speaker. Therefore the translation is considered less accurate due to the use of gentler word to replace the swearing word so that it doesn’t sounds rude at all. Nevertheless, the offensiveness of the swearing word uttered of the speaker which represents the situational context lost in translation and it is changed by common word. However, although the result of the translation by using interjection is gentler than the original word but in fact it can maintain the idea without neglecting the appropriateness in the target language culture. Hence, this technique is considered acceptable.

Translation by omission is the last technique which is used in translating this film. This technique covers 63.73% for the accuracy which tends to be less accurate and 85.3% for the acceptability. This technique is used by the translator to omit a word which is not vital enough to the development of the text in order to make the translation seems to be natural and readable. The use of this technique often makes the expressive meaning lost. However it will not make the translation loose of meaning. Regarding to the accuracy, the use of this technique usually make the translation less accurate because the translation can not really convey the same emotional sense consists in the swearing words as the original word does.
