CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

A. Research Design

The aim of this study is to find out the relationship among visual learning sty le and parents’ attention to English language achievement, therefore this research is a correlational study, which belongs to quantitative research and a survey design. On the research there are three correlations tested. First, correlation grips between visual learning style and English achievement. Second, the correlation detains between parents’ attention and English achievement. Third, the correlation clutch between visual learning style and parents’ attention with English achievement. B. Data Collection

The datacollected in this study are: a. Questionnaire The questionnaires was administered for students grade five, it is to gather information about the students data in their learning style and their opinion about their parents attention. The questionnaire is Visual learning style X1 English Achievement Parents’ attention X2 38 closed questionnaire, The questionnaire is written in Bahasa Indonesia to ensure complete understanding of items by participants. b. Documentation The documentation is students’ score in the test given. The test is also used in final test at the school. C. Data Analysis 1. Instrument analysis a. Validity and reliability Test Validity and reliability test used in this study is to measure the instrument validity and reliability. It is valid and reliable if accepted with the indicators used in the variables. Validity means the individual’s score from instruments is meaningful also can be interpreted and concluded from the sample while reliability in this study means the instruments’ score run stable and consistent. To know the reliability of instrument, it is done a tryout to 25 students of SDN Cempaka Baru II grade V. Validity test used r- critics 0.21 with statement ― the questionnaire is valid if 0.21 and not valid when 0.21.‖. While reliability test used r- critics 0.6 with statement ―the questionnaire is reliable when 0.6 and not relia ble if 0.6‖. Technique in Data analysis This study used Pearson analysis in analyzing the data, then for the purpose of testing hypothesis, this study also analyzed: a. Normality test Normality test is to find out whether the data distributed normally or not. To measure normality test following procedures are done: 1. observation Xı, X 2 , … Xn be zı, z 2 ,… z n. 2. each this raw numbers using the standard normal distribution list, then calculated the odd F zi = P z zi 3. then calculated the proportion of z1, z2…zn smaller or equal to zi by S zi then S zi = number of z1, z2…zn smaller zi equal to the amount of data shared. 4. compute the difference F zi – S zi and then specify the absolute price. 5. Take the price of the greater of the absolute difference in prices them. In the study, coefficient used is 0.05, while visual learning style got 0.074 and parents attention gained 0.533, also students achievement
