4.4.1 Challenge
A good computer game improves capabilities of the learners since it provides broad experiences and practice opportunities continue to challenge the
learner. However, the challenges depend on the level of the game played. For the participants, as they spoke to me, learning English was fun, but
confusing. They sometimes did not feel confident because they realized their pronunciation was not good. It was the reason they often did not speak loud when
answering teacher’s questions. As interviewed by me, they felt relaxed and not under pressure. They were not doubtful to share about their obstacles they faced
during their learning.
In this study, the challenges are not the level of the game chosen, but it tends to be personal problem, unpleasant experience, and technological problem.
Personal problems were those the participants felt both when studying and when playing, like getting confused of how to do something.

Which one is the difficulty? The words… cannot pronounce them.
If there are difficult words, what will you do? Ask bu Sari.

However, when playing, the participants also felt that the challenge was also a fun confusion.
Participant A – Interview 2 – CHL
Participant A knew it was a problem that an adult cried. She needed to find out why he cried and find the solution. At first, she thought it was weird, but later she
tried to do some actions for the character and noticed if there was any change. Apparently, as told to me, the man character needed to rest because he was very
tired. She knew it because of the picture above the character looking like a bed, so she clicked on the bed and chose ‘sleep’.
A problem is sometimes considered as a burden. However, knowing that the participant often did trials and errors after once taught, I noticed they
considered the problem as something they needed to face, experience, and solve. When learning, unavoidably the participants might remember of any unpleasant
experience in their life which can later avoid her for moving forward. R Which one do you like?
P The bold man. R Why?
P Because he is bald laughing, like to get angry and cry.
