2. Determining the Actions

After having the listed problems that need to be solved, the researcher proposed some actions to overcome the problems occurring in the field. The researcher was helped by the English teacher as a collaborator. The English teacher gave some considerations and suggestions related to the actions which could be implemented in the reading class. The aim of this research was to improve the students’ reading comprehension ability. In improving the students’ reading comprehension, an effective technique needed to be used. Based on the agreement, SS was decided to be used in order to improve the students reading comprehension. By using this strategy, the students were expected to be able in grasping the content of a story better since this strategy involved the students to be aware with the part of a story. The activities of SS would set in fun way so the students could enjoy the process of the teaching and learning of reading. The collaborator also suggested that guessing the words’ meaning could be implemented during the Structure Strategy practice to facilitate students in mastering the unfamiliar words. This is the summary of the problems and the planned actions that were expected to be able to improve the students’ comprehension. Table 4: Problems and Actions No. Problems Actions 1. The students had difficulties in finding the detailed information from the texts. Training the students in using the Structure Strategy diagram to find the detailed information.
